spud1234, please do not take offence at what I am about to say ,but using capital or upper case letters means YOU ARE SHOUTING at us,and this gives some of us a headache.

If however your caps lock is stuck forgive me, but I think you should know.

I'm sure it's for the benefit of the more short sighted eh spud?
Have you tried searching under sasha torte(not sure about the spelling-someone will put me right I hope). It's a single layer cake with ganache or similar on top-but you can top it with anything I guess Wink

hi spud, just to say that its a known etiquette that using capital letters is understood to be shouting, hence frexy's comments, who would be trying to help/ advise not cause trouble.
Pictures or no pictures its still seen as shouting .
Big Grin
my great aunt used to make the same kind of choccie cake a really deep cake very dark with melted choccie on the top, no butter cream, I will see if I can find it for you, i havent made that in years.
hope you get your pc locking prob sorted eh.
back with that recipe soon Smile

As I said spud dont take offence as none was intended.
However now you know what its about you have cured it and thats great.
Its very difficult to put recipes on this board as most are copyright and would be deleted, but Be-ro have some great ones.Specially the one made with evaporated milk/carnation,really moist and no filling.
Take a look at their website.

Hello Spud, Isn't it a shame that so many of these recipes die out with the passing generations, here is a Chocolate Cake recipe from my tatty little recipe book I have had since for ever Big Grin
Chocolate Cake
4oz S.R.Flour
4oz Butter/marg
6oz moist brown sugar
2 eggs
2oz plain chocolate
1/2 tsp vanilla
2 1/2 fluid oz warm milk
Method
1. Cream butter and sugar until light and add egg yolks.
2. Melt choc and add vanilla add to butter mix with sifted flour and milk to make a soft consistency.
3.Fold in stiffly beaten egg whites.
4. Bake in a 7in tin with the bottom lined for about an hour
oven gas mark 4.
This cake becomes more moist and tasty after storage.
It is probably not like the one your Nan used to make but it is a nice cake I promise . Good cooking Spud whatever you try.

I don't ice this one because we are not really icing fans,it makes a sort ofcrusty top, for want of a better word but don't let that put you off. It is quite an elderly recipe but nice.

spud1234, glad you did not take offence and your poor computer let you down.
Hate it when mine goes off at a tangent,it wont send my emails at the moment so will have a backlog.
Looks as if Choccie cakes are the order of the day so off to make one for tomorrow.
One site I go on had a recentley married girl post her wedding cake recipe which was Chocolate and cointreau decorated with Thorntons chocolates...drool drool.

I remember years ago Russell Grant did a big thing on chocolate cakes. He tested them all out himself.

What is really sad is that I still have the Family Circle book that went with it..... Smile

Unusual in that you add a tablespoon of vinegar to milk and make a batter.

Sorry
Have not iced it, so will serve it tonight as a pudd.
Well a slice with some raspberries thickend and poured over and a bit of creme fraiche as it is very chocolatey.
