Indian menu for crowd

I am having a party for 50 people and wanted to cook Indian food. Can someone suggest me a less time consuming 3 course meal ? Thanks for your time.

Hi Nimisha. Your very brave to have a party for 50 people. Is it buffet or sit down. For Starter how about making spicy meat or fish balls. They can be rolled into small balls in advance and then cooked off at last minute if you want them warm. Serve with lots of pickles, breads, and salad maybe. For mains you could do some mackerel wrapped in foil just put on a baking tray in oven with some rice, maybe a veg and/or chicken curry with Dhall. It can all be prepared in advance, just heat and serve. Mmm I quite fance this now, yum yum. Good luck. Kind regards. Marie Wink Wink

Hi Marie, thanks for time and effort to reply. Atlast someone replied to my message Smile My party is just a few days away and I have done all the shopping for it and am almost ready to start... so unfornately I can't implement your suggestions. But I can say that fish is a good idea. I'll try that someday! Thanks very much.

Hi Nimisha, I would do onion bhajis and samosas etc for starters, for mains I would go for a huge pot of some kind of meat curry plus a vegetarian curry (maybe incorporating some paneer) and then a lentil dhal, serve with naan breads and you are sorted. If you don't want to incorporate the paneer in the veggie curry then make some little paneer tikkas - they are delicious, especially if you have some veggies attending. Ice cream or sorbet would be perfect for dessert - sorry for the delay in responding, I hadn't seen your original post until Love Grub brought it up.

I thought this was posted twice and people replied to the other one, but it seems I am wrong.

But this is the same one as the puddings we are discussing at the moment isn't it? (my trifle suggestion)

Are you definitely doing Indian now as I see on the other thread you say you are already cooking the starter and main and were asking about puds.

yes, Rustie, I am same person discussing pudding.Cheeky I am doing Indian but had got stuck up with easy to make and store dessert.
Well, for starters I have chicken legs cooked in greek style rather than the traditional tandoor style(Tandoori chicken is found in all parties..so thought of something different greek style and have tried it). I am thinking of making Onion bhajis but I can't make them ahead of time. Can I? When reheated they will get soggy so thought of dropping if off the menu. Any suggestions are welcome.
Main course is chicken curry, potatoes and cauliflower curry, soya granules and green peas masala(I don't have to do any chopping for this), Rice and naan. Porridge, I think, I'll include dal as well to complete the meal. Can I prepare it 3 or 4 days ago and store in the fridge? or should I freeze it? For dessert, I think trifle would work. What you'll say ? Thanks in advance folks.

I think the lentil dhal would keep a couple of days but it does freeze quite well - good luck, sounds yummy!

umm not for pud Nimisha sorry, but chick peas make a wonderful side dish.

I am rethinking on the trifle for pud tho, have you time to do sorbet? lemon or lime even grapefruit or mango?

Failing that some nice yoghurt based puds?

Re. onion bhajis, as you can buy them ready made, I don't know if they can be cooked from scratch and then reheated but I am sure one of our experts will be able to tell you!

I love chick peas.But I find this in every indian meal I go to. The same is with Tandoori chicken ...so thought of dropping it off. Yogurt based puds sounds yummy. Any suggestions? Sorbet is a good idea too but I am having this party in a hall and is a buffet. If I serve the sorbet together with the other courses of meal, it would melt byt the time people have their dessert right ? Thanks again folk for all the effort in making suggestions.

Hi Nimisha, Sorry just looked at the date. Mackeral is cheap at the moment (TESCO) have fresh. What are you cooking? Mmm whatever am sure will go down a treat, I do so love Indian food. How about a simple fruit salad for dessert, or just cheat and buy some nice ice cream. Mmmm now I really AM hungry. Cheeky Cheeky Marie

How about an Indian rice pudding for dessert - flavour it with cardamom and coconut cream. You can add raisins or mango or whatever.
For a buffet a big fresh fruit salad - use tropical fruits like mango, pineapple, passion fruit, star fruit etc and serve with a big bowl of honey flavoured Greek yoghurt. If you make a fruit syrup for the salad add cardamom for a lovely flavour. Big Grin Good luck - sorry I didn't see your post before as OH has loads of lovely curry recipes he makes himself so no probs with copyright.

Fruit syrup with cardamom sounds yummy. How do I make the basic fruit syrup ? thank for your inputs.
