ok, can you use fresh yeast in a breadmaker? Yes.
I know that because it has been on here before, I do not have a breadmaker so do not know from personal experience.

As for the rest of it, I have to hand over to someone else, there are lots of people on here who use fresh yeast and who use breadmakers. Who know how to store fresh yeast, and yes I again know it will freeze cos you can buy it frozen and some people have posted on here in the past about freezing.

From what I remember there is sometimes a problem cos when you defrost the yeast it goes runny, but I think it still works ok.

Now, I don't have as much time as I did to search all this out. But. Promise. If these questions are not answered soon........ I will.

Thanks Rustie.I didn't realize it could be frozen. I asked the baker at Tesco for some yesterday, then realized I wouldn't be able to use it all in one day Frown I don't want to waste it.

Yes, you can, I make bread with fresh yeast in a machine. I prefer the taste. Yes it freezes, I never keep mine for more than 4 months so dont know if it will go longer. Let it thaw in the fridge over night.

You prep in reverse so make the fresh yeast with half a block of yeast, a little of the water you would use and a little sugar also. when you have a smooth paste leave it for 5 minutes. Then add it to the liquid side that is with the water.

Mostly, I use this method to make the dough rather than the bread, so I make the bread in an oven but it works all the way in a machine.

Have fun.

I use fresh milk as well and I use instead of butter oil. the oil I change flavours with to give a change.

Thanks Martino, I have frozen the yeast, so will give it a go your way. I'll bake it in the oven instead of finishing in the machine and will also try your variations.
Am looking forward to the end results!

Will supermarket bakers sell you fresh yeast? I have never had the guts to ask. The bakers in our local supermarket (not Tesco) are a pretty miserable lot. Anywhere else can you get yeast? Confused

Local bakeries. But as long as your supermarket makes the bread on the premises and doesn't just bake it there then they should have yeast. I last got some at my local asda for about 15p I think.
