I think the moderating of your off the menu site needs tightening up. I voted against it ever being created and I think I have been proved right. I would vote it is removed it asked again today.

Ralphe you have a friend here. However, that is my opinion and many like it. What I find difficult and why I was away from the boards for so long is that it dominates the recent thread list, meaning people with real cooking issues get driven off the list fast. At least take away the most recent thread list or unhook "off the menu" from it. After all those who want to banter no exactly where "off the menu" is.

Admitadly it is a food site but then it does cater for people who just want to discuss food all the time, so if you don't like the off the menu section then don't look at it its that simple.

I think to be fair Ralphe a lot of people are more than a litle sensitive towards possible Trolls or trouble makers.
Unbeknown to yourself im sure, we have had some recent activity which resulted in us losing some great people.
I dont think we gang up on folks.
Lets face it, you wouldnt walk into a room and start calling people names or singling them out for ridicule if you didnt know them from Adam.
We have had loads of newbies on the site recently and they are great, by adding lots of fun and knowledge.
And me for one having not been on the boards a year yet love it when people contribute in a friendly manner.
No point to prove just having a conversation.
there is one thread for Banter and plenty others relating directly to food.
If you want moderators to moderate the entire site of unwelcome comments then you would find yourself off the boards quicker than saying "food".

I think there are misunderstandings here.

1) I do not think this is Ralph1 or the "old" Ralph, and I said as much to Mary yesterday.

2) Let me make it clear that when I said I agree on the whole I mean that I don't like the way that "Off the Menu" quite often takes over, I have never said it should be done away with, just kept in it's place. I don't know how, but that is what I feel. Sometimes I find it difficult to find any food posts, they are quite often there but they get buried so quickly by "Off the Menu" threads and posts. Now, if I find it difficult to find the food, then I think it must sometimes be very difficult for new people to do so.

3) Contrary to comments that have been made, I have never said that "Off the Menu" posts SHOULD contain any reference to food, nor have I said SHOULDN'T contain any references to food. It is a place for anything and everything.

I now wonder just who the problem is and was, and mybe some people were right all along, that the mods like stirring up trouble now and again just to get the site going.
