hello, Lyndz, I'm new here, but I suggest you check out Delia, she's the best. (Well, in my estimation, but I think a lot may disagree.)

I absolutley agree with Helen's mum.
For good basic cookery, I would also recommend Delia and also Good Housekeeping and possibly Mary Berry - the rest comes from practice

I also agree, Delia is great for learning to cook, I think she gives you the confidence to go ahead & make something, then when you're more experienced you can try the more tricky stuff.

Lyndz, there are a lot of cook books out there to try out and lots of good recipes from top chefs on here to help you with.Just dont be scared, a recipe is only a guide, so if you follow it to the t, and its not to your taste, then thats how you learn to change things to suit your needs. If you like the look of a recipe , follow it, if you have a problem then just get back to us and c if we can help you!!!

Lyndz, I couldn't make a proper cup of tea when first married and now can make a right proper meal. It took time but it does come. Try a Delia cookery book, she seems new and plain about what to do with your cookery tasks. Good luck, luv. You'll do fine and cook for your old mum one day. At least that's what I hope my Candace will do for me!

Lyndz, I also agree with Rumian, let him try his hand at the cooking now and then, it won't hurt, promise!

Lyndz, I couldn't cook when I got married, but I had such a love of food, I read everything I could get my hands on, listened to tips from others, and watched my MIL, she was a great basic cook. I bought all Delia's books plus hundreds more, I can't resist cookery books. Good luck you can do it.
