Just checked Sainsbury on line. They have Prosecco Marco Oro 75cl at £5.99, but that's not to say all their stores will stock it.

I think Tesco might sell it, always check the label says DOC (denominazione di origine controlla) it is a guarantee for the quality of the wine. This goes for any Italian wine.

Tesco definitely sell it. See if you can get hold of an Italian aperatif called Aperol - two measures Prosecco, one measure Aperol, a cube of ice - shut your eyes, taste and you will be in Italy!

... Prosecco is Italy's answer to refreshing, well-made sparkling wine at a reasonable price....

Prosecco is Italian champagne from the worse to the best. LDLs certainly sell a cheap one. Prosecco Marco Oro is a good one and the one named after the famous red racing cars from Italy is the best! We wont drink anything else...

Italian Champagne Martino?

No surely not, Champagne can only be called Champagne if it comes from that certain place in France, with certain French grapes from certain French vinyards. Italy produces sparkling wine. Smile

Try l'Ombra from Oddbins. As it's not as fizzy as other fizzes, the charming thing to prosecco is the string keeping the cork in...

String? Keeping the cork in? Heavens to Murgatroyd, the Aussies use wire!

Indeed we will. Perhaps Aussie sparkling has much more fizz?

You mean the little wire cage that surrounds the cork? I like those, plus if you're at a really boring party, you can sculpt the wire and cork into chairs...after drinking the lovely contents of the bottle, of course. An example of wire n' cork art here - [link]

It would have to be a really boring party to go to all that trouble alysha! But aren't some of them clever?

They are! Be kind of fun to do a challenge after Christmas lunch - see who can make the most creative item from the champagne cork and cage.

Hehe Not tried it myself, I usually just twist the foil through the wire. Not quite as creative but I'm going to try making a chair this Christmas!

Yes I like Australian "champagnes" as well and I am looking forward to the LLwR in January to try some more.

But this Christmas it will only be Italian "champagne" in our house. Nothing to do with the French mind, just because they have registered the name "champagne" does not mean Australian "champagne" is not as good.

Sparkling wine is ok but the champagne method for me is the best.

I bought my Christmas Champagne today, I don't often get to drink Champagne and normally would get a special offer deal or buy Cava, which ok is nice, but a little gassy. I saw Prosecco but resisted buying it.

For me, this year, the best French Champagne that I can afford is the only thing for me.

But, as they say, there you go, and, each to their own. For the first time in many many years, I can see a future, so a bottle for Christmas and a bottle for New Year.

Cheers everyone!

You cannot beat the Bellini at Harry's Bar in Venice - Prosecco and peach nectar - absolutely delicious! - thought the restaurant was very overrated and extremely expensive for what it was although you pay for the ambience and the view. Anyone else think the same??
