I've been hearing a lot about samphire recently- especially on Good food bites and Rick's Stein's food heroes. I'd really like to try it, but living in Edinburgh might make it a bit difficult! any suggestions?

and click on Not Fish on the left handside. They also sell carrageen moss which has been mentioned a lot recently by some chefs.

You will not get the best at this time of year. May/June are the best times for young growth. It grows on the south coast and up the west coast as far as Wales.

we have had the steamed cod with coconut rice for dinner tonught It was on mondays good food bites.I would like to recomend it to you all it was absoulutly delicious.The only thing i would perhaps do differently next time would be to use a little less chilli powder HIGHLY RECOMMENDED

I usually buy samphire from a local fishmongers here in Devon when it's in season but as we are on the south coast it is probably more readily available (though for all I know it could come from Billingsgate in London). I would suggest you trying your local fishmongers when samphire is in season. Even if they don't stock it, you may be able to order from them.

It also grows on the East coast around Hunstantan and Wells. Fabulous stuff not only eaten fresh but pickled too.
