Hi Nick, just to make life difficult, Goa is part of India and they eat beef. One of my favourites is Beef Xecxec (pron. sha-koo-tee) Smile

While I can sympathise with the subject matter - those practises are repulsive - you simply can't please all the people all the time. GFL/GFB has to find something to put in their programmes and what's seen as interesting by one person may be seen as unpleasant by another.

With the greatest of respect and without wishing to offend anybody, you could always change channels or switch off.

Personally, though, I don't understand how closing your eyes and mind to it and hoping it'll go away is going to do anything to stop it?

i agree,we shouldn't condemn practises just because they dont fit into our perception of what is acceptable

Back to simple old Nick again :)

I agree that we shouldn't do that - But when you see in India that the Cow is sacred, and yet we stuff our faces with beef, what do the Indians think of us?? Confused

i just get a little concerned when a sensitive topic comes up that the first response is blank it out.im a dog owner and lover as im sure probably alot of people are here but shutting the subject out isnt really a way forward.i dont know the answer but ignoring doesnt seem to be to me the way to go

I don't think that this is a case of judging other cultures. I grew up in the Far East and spent 20 years there, my father and family live in the Philipinnes and I have the upmost respect of other people's cultures, as I am sure the people above do too. I think we are just saying that we would rather not see programmes on this subject and as Cpt Bedspring said, we are aware this goes on and we do not need to be reminded of it.

i saw the programme and i thought that Anton was rather reticent about talking about his experience, but i also think we should not judge other cultures by our own standard. For right or wrong there are many practises in the production of food that i find abhorant, but for some cultures, thats their way of life.

I did not see that show, thankfully. I agree with you both, we as a nation should not be seen to encourage this. Frank Skinner did a similar thing in Korea a few years ago and it really made me sad - the suffering these animals endure. I am no fan of Frank Skinner and I now have a very different opinion of Anton Edelmann.

Amanda, I completely and utterly agree. I was really upset after watching Thursday's show. We all know disgusting stuff like that takes place in far flung places, but please GFL, we don't want to be reminded of it. Angry Cry
