Considering there are only 3 in the UK, one in London and two others in the same town, they cost for the average meal more than most peoples monthly mortgage! I would say hell yes! save and go on a pilgrimage its a must!
I recently went and sampled the Waterside Inn in Bray and the Fat Duck in Bray just outside of London and have to say WOW WOW WOW. From the moment you arrive everything is so perfect, from the public areas, to the bathrooms, to the bedrooms to the politeness and helpfullness of the staff. The food was out of this world and the settings so beautiful. I honestly can say I could not find a fault, from checking out the cutlery, glasses to the cleanliness in the toilets etc it was all spot on. Prices are extra high but hey what do you expect when you are drinking wine and brandy older than yourself. Its all about the memories though isn't it and that is what this place will do create long lasting memories, least of all when the credit card statement comes in!

Lunch at Gordon Ramsey in Royal Hospital Road was the best meal I have eaten (I have never been the the Fat Duck or Waterside). Was it because I knew that it had 3 stars? Perhaps. I arrived expecting perfection and Gordon delivered. Of course ot will cost an arm and I leg but if you love good food then it dosn't get any better so I agree, treat yourself.

Hi relishmama, if you go to:
[link]
you should find some details and prices.

Angela Hartnett is well on her way to increasing the one star they hold there. I understand that Gordon sent her off on a 'world' tour while the builders were in and she came back with some great ideas. You have to pay your money and take your choice, £33 set menu up to over £100 per head, and they have special offers which include an overnight stop on Sunday with champagne on arrival, a meal, double bed room, and a tour of the kitchens, all for less than £300. Finally, The Carlos room for a special event is fantastic and I think they have others. Carpaccio of Norfolk duck with truffles and parmesan is to die for. Smile

It is a shame that she could sent around the world - The UK has food that is just as good as anywhere in the World, but it is just thought of as your Lancashire Hotpots etc - When you have excellent cheese's and meats, fish and much much more. And what do we do - YUP sell it to the rest of the World because there is not much demand for it here !!!

For instance Morecambe Bay Shrimps are renowned all over Europe, but where do you see them in the UK ??

Who has ever eaten them in the UK? I buy mine in France - Can't get them in Dorset !!!

RANT OVER - GETTING OFF HIGH HORSE - GOODBYEEEEE!!!

Hi Nick, you are right, but, we in the UK tend to be very regional in our views on food as you illustrate in your 'rant'. Gordon was looking to find new ways to use the excellent ingredients which are available, hence the trip. Morecambe Bay Shrimps, I get mine from my lovely deli in Harpenden. RANT ON, IT IS GOOD FOR THE BP! Smile

gosh I am pleased that somebody responded to this post in a positive way. I mentioned to my partner that they all probably though " another southerner with a telephone style bank balance harping it on" which is't the case so am grateful to all. I must confess after knowing the waterside had been at the top of its game for more than 20 years that I was expecting perfection. I find a very good site is London eating as it is everyday people that review the restaurants that they sample and most try to be constructive in their comments. Not always the case with some which is why they have a "too hot to publish section" but it has never steared me wrong so far, although it is good to read all the comments as some come out as very 50/50 in their opinions.
