Hi Grubhead, sorry you are at work today, so am I, but from home. MammaChef is in Essex, so many you can try her cooking, at her restaurant Paris, can't remember website but you can click on her name and find it.

Glad you love Jeni - I do too - hate it when she goes away for a week or two. Smile

Welcome grubhead,

Thanks you two sweeties for your kind words, but I must just point out it's not actually my restaurant, (would be nice if it was) but I do work there. The website address is www.parisrestaurant.net just for your info although Loughton is a long way away.

I live and work near Southend. Welcome to the boards grubhead, hope you enjoy chatting to us all.

I hadn't heard that Marguerite Patten had died, and can't see it online anywhere, that saddens me, she was an icon, and very much loved and will be very much missed. This must have been in the last couple of months?

I will say no more about the smilies Mamma, you already know how I feel. Roll Eyes

I'd just like to point out that my criticism of the show isn't meant to be crticism of Sophie herself. I think she's a wonderful cook, her recipes are great and I watch absolutely everything she appears in. I just don't especially like the format of the new prog. I'm not sure that she comes across as bossy (well, not to me anyway) but it just seems as though it doesn't all 'run together' properly. I think it's probably quite a good idea that we're shown how to make the good old-fashioned things that our mum's used to make, I just feel this prog could present the ideas a little better, that's all.

As for her assistants, they probably all know what they're letting themselves in for by appearing with her - and let's face it, they're going to have an easier time than if it was GR presenting the prog! I'd imagine most of them are only too pleased to be able to pick up a few tips from a master (mistress?) cook like Sophie.

Did you're mum make the food she does Mark? The closest I've come to a recipe my mum made was stew when Faith Brown was on - then Sophie (who I really like by the way) sprinkled chopped parsley all over the top of it! Mum's didn't do that when I was a kid Smile

Some of the stuff I've seen on there, yes, she did. Not like Sophie does though, I have to say. Smile My dad was very much of the 'plain food' brigade and if my mum had smothered everything with herbs & spices, he just wouldn't have eaten it. We're talking about somebody who felt that 'rice is for puddings only' here.......

lol - My dad's the same. The food he's never tasted is unbelievable! Well - I stand corrected! Definitely not my childhood meals though.

I Love Sophie Grigson and her Weekends series was great, so I have been quite disappointed at the latest new series. It just seems odd and totally out of character for her to be in such modern surroundings. I loved to see her home and kitchen and think she should do another similar type of program. She's usually so natural and says if you don't like a particular ingredient just leave it out unlike Delia's rigid 7 turns of the pepper mill approach.
