The bits I enjoy the most are chefs tips, how to sharpen a knife, how to portion a duck or chicken (not that there are many of these) Also the out & about items, like Lotte Duncan & others, visiting farms, shops & factories, & particularly the little bits of history, some of the chefs throw in..Alan Coxon ? may drive Jeni up the wall but I find his food-history fascinating. Must admit I also like the flower arranging bits!

I personally would like to see 1) the non-food related celebrities done away with, and 2) the flower arranging bits done away with. Instead, we could have much more time devoted to viewers emails and questions, and also, I think it would be great if each celebrity chef and that weeks supporting presenter (sorry if thats not the correct way to refer to these peeps!) challanged to make a low budget dish along the lines of whatever the days theme is. I also think that a section on healthy alternatives would be great, and low budget alternatives for the ingredients for the dishes cooked. Sorry to harp on about the low budget bits, but I am on benefits awaiting an operation so that I can get a job that will give me enough money to be able to afford humungous chunks of the best cuts of meat etc! - my limit is usually minced beef, chicken thighs etc. All of this said, being on a low budget don't half make you inventive!

So am I the only one who finds Jenny B's unprofessional attention seeking and upstaging her guests just a tad irritating? She can be very funny occasionally. But she is more usually pretty annoying. I also object to her making so much of her Jewish background and then clearly flouting Jewish dietary laws. This sends confusing messages to non-Jews. You either downplay your background (eg Nigella) or play it straight

get a grip chefrico, am I the only one who objects to you turning good natured foodie banter into a religious debate? I personally think that Jenny is witty and amusing, and her "Jewish Mother" references do not offend my C of E beliefs one iota, quite the opposite, shes very funny. Take some advice, lighten up!

I enjoy the flower decorating but agree keep it related to table decorations. I would like a segment on restaurants eg a review of one restaurant each day, or perhaps where to eat in a particular area.I would volunteer for that job! I agree that we don't need actors and writers being interviewed unless they have some connection with food or wine. Jenny is fantastic and gets the balance just right between listening and learning, asking all the right questions and having a laugh.

I agree totally with Chefrico concerting Jennie Barnet. She is B's unprofessional attention seeking and upstaging her guests and very irritating?

Hi Gillaine, if you want to insult someone which by the way is against the board rules, at least have decency to spell her name correctly. This line of comment has been done to death already on the site.

I think the new series of GFL should (1) Feature wholesome healthy meals that people can afford to cook; (2) Lose the flower arranging; (3) Lose the non foody interviews; (4) Redsesign the kitchens (the old ones looked much better); (5) Be shown later than 6pm; (6) Feature more new foody products. Anyone agree?

I agree with point no. 5 - I don´t get home from work until around 9pm, so miss the repeat shows. But I suppose I could always buy a video!

Well I agree with most of all the current things people want to keep, but I sometimes, depending on who and what the subject matter is, like the interviews, I feel they give a break or give one a chance to refresh the palate.
I think Jenny is one of the best, no, Jenny is the best food presenter. I remember one woman (forgot her name) who was on "taste" (I think) who would refuse to try half the items because she didn't like X or drink X. What was the production company thinking of when they employed her, mind you, I've never seen her since.

Wink
Well it was nice to leave this sitting here until the new series started. I'm sorry for those who were a little confused but I think GFL should be about food, cooking and the people who cook. Thanks beanz, you grasped it. There is enough 'light entertainment' on the TV. GFL used to be informative, it used to be excellent, it used to stick to its brief.
Rather sad that some mis-guided readers assumed this was an attack on JB. She is presenting the show that she is directed to present (I haven't read that it is now supposed to be the JB Live Show: have I missed something?). She does exactly what she is told and does it very well. I'm suggesting that we go for a rather more up-market Ramsey/Stein/Floyd approach rather than a Richard and Judy show.
Food is very important, your latest play or some tosh you have just written simply isn't.

I have read the comments with interest. I was delighted when GFL returned although I cannot always watch due to work etc. I think Jeni makes the programme and always puts the guests at ease. Without wanting to cause any bad feeling I am also amazed at the food Jeni eats as they do go against Jewish law. Is it possible to have some programmes based on different religions and the food trends connected with them, this might stop alot of the myths that have built up over the years.
