Polite request. When the new series starts could we get back to concentrating on talking about food, cooking and the people who cook? I really do hope so.

Food, cooking and the people who cook? As opposed to what? I hope this isn't another of these tedious attacks on Jeni's wonderful personality because you're onto a hiding to nothing here, mate!

Looks like I have my wires crossed RJG. I thought you wanted to know recipes from us all that are posting. Did-not realize you were talking about the GFL team. I think GFL is just fine as it is. This is what makes it stand out from all other cooking programmes it covers so many different topics.

I think i understand RJG's point. I've been thinking for a while now that GFL is going down hill a bit. Nothing to do with presenters/Chefs just the format. I tune in the hear about foody stuff, not, for example, has bean actors flogging childrens books. There is too much non-food chat
And while I'm on my soap box, why is it UKTV Food is being bombarded with the like of Can't cook, won't Cook (x2 within 2hrs) and RSC - lets get on with real info progs about food and chefs.
Why can't we have a series like Steve Wallpole (I think thats his name) - the guy who does the 5 min slot on GFB on kitchen techniques.
Right, off my soap box (for now!!)

well personally, I can't stand the never ending ready steady cook, celebrity ready steady cook and can't cook won't cook programmes. As far as I am concerned, if you can't or won't cook, don't then and don't go on food programmes. So I do agree with you beanz69. I don't, however know what you mean RJG, tell us more of what you like and don't like, then we will know where you're coming from.

RJG says 'could we get back to concentrating on talking about food, cooking and the people who cook' - which as i understand it asking for less of a chat show format and get back to a food format. Thats why its call UKTV FOOD, not UKTV Mindless Chat for Long gone 'B' celebs who are trying to sell a book/film/music (bit of a long title!!)

I have an idea; list the type of programs we want to see on UKTV Food and the format of GFL/Bites that we want to see in the future. As we are the viewers surely we should have some input.
NB This should not be a 'I hate this prog. as the presenter stinks' Here's my starter for ten -
Drop the chat show bit (and flower aranging) from GFL and introduce more techniques/chefs tips etc. More on reviews on equipment.
Any other comments ?

Now beanz69, Drop the chat show or rather change the chat show to just Chefs. Chef,s to be guests and answer all questions food related and a lot more emails read out live. Their are so many questions that need expert answers and most of them never get a look in.

Here's another. The chef's have to ask the viewers a question about themselves ie: What's my fav' food or which town was I born in , something along those lines and the first person that emails in with the correct answer will recieve a personal gift from that particlar chef wether it be a signed photo or his/her autographed apron or a spoon they may have used.. ect......

Hi all. I agree that we need more food items on GFL. The flower bits and interviews do go on a bit. I tape it daily so I can fast forward over these bits. Great idea by the way Blondie. Any more good 'uns?

Hi I dont enjoy the interviews and flowery bits as much as the foodie items.

I particularly enjoyed Simon rimmers trips to various places such as cheltenham and Ludlow etc.
And the Itemsd where they go to the places who make the foods etc.
So wouldnt mind more restaurants and cafe/bistros features. some more abroad stuff looking at authentic cookery but "up to date" .

And the ingredients features are great, really infomative and some more taste testing of branded goods.

Otherwise I love the show!!!
cheers
H

I enjoy the flower arranging section - I like to make unusual flower decorations when having a dinner party. I would like to see someone do s omething on table settings/decorations too. I think the table presentation is as important as the food even though the tendancy on all of the cookin g programmes is to just stick the food in the middle of the table and everyone grab a plate. I think for a special occasion (birthday, Valentines, Xmas etc) it is nice to set and decorate the table. It doesn't have to be fancy or expensive, but different ideas would be nice.
I enjoy the interviews as long asthey are with food-related people - like Jane Asher or Nanette Newman - don't see the point of other people being interviewed on a food programme. Otherwise love the show.

Well I agree with you Sonia that table settings are important and I too wouldn't mind seeing floral table arrangements. But as for all the other floral arrangements, I think they should be on the home decorating make over type of programmes. Since they have a whole channel for that type of stuff, they have plenty of opportunity to show it there.

I also agree that the chat guest who is not food related is on the wrong channel too.

Like relishmama, I love the outside trips showing foodie stuff or eateries and also love the Steve Walpole educational bits. Looks like alot of us have the same ideas about the format.

Please, please do not stop the flower arranging and table decoration as they are as important as the food. It is also gives the show variety

It is just about having a balance of cooking and other associated items.

When is GFL back as I am already missing it.

Thankyou Tony. Thats an awful long time to wait. August is ages away and we are only in June. Going to miss the live shows a lot. Still it will be worth the wait.

Another thing I would like to see is when the chefs have finished their dish - an accompanying wine is also suggested. Not necessarily the name of the wine but type of wine that would go best.

Sonia thats a great Idea!!!! I know me for sure would like loads more info on what best goes with what.
I can understand that it would be a time issue but great stuff.
Perhaps they could go around all the Farmers Markets and food fair with a roving reporter showing us all whats on offer and in season to promote them on a regular basis
Hands up who wants to volunteer for that job!"!

Their are many people out their that are on a low budget. I would like to see more low budget meals cooking without wine and truffles and cream and brandy ect: Delia is very good at explaining how to cook food. How about a regular spot to show people new to this art how to prepare and cook vegetables and meats and simple desserts, how to make a nice sauce or even a gravy. Even showing a whole side of beef or pig an telling the viewers what cut it is and how you should cook it.

with so many reports on increased levels of obesity especially among young people, maybe some thought should be put into education and a tasty balanced diet aimed at young people especially as the show is back during the summer break.

Yes, I agree. They should emphasise tasty, wholesome meals which are quick and easy to prepare with readily available ingredients that don't cost a fortune. Maybe I'm asking too much there!

Well I think that the quick easy ready for supper tonight section, is what good food bites is all about. I think that is why is was born. So good food live can remain the more gourmet programme. Thus reaching everyones taste buds and pocket.

anyone agree?
