How do you store w/b to stop it from going mouldy? It does not freeze well so you have to use it in one go , i can't get through it quick enough before it starts to turn green. Any advice would be useful

American bread is made with formalihyde. Used in preserving cadavers. Try that. Or buy smaller loaves and eat faster!

Store in a bread bin or plastic bag at room temperture Pam 22 it should last a few days. How long does a loaf last you. I go through 2 loaves a day. Wished it would go stale sometimes so that I could make a bread pudding. I used to be given day old bread a few years ago and I made lots of pudds for the local shops and tea rooms.

Hi, it's me again sorry I readw/b thinking white bread. I would leave the wholemeal bread in it's wrappings and store in an earthen ware bread box and to stop it going mouldy if you wanted it ti last a little longer leave it in it's plastic wrapping and store in the fridge.

I don't understand why you can't freeze it.I have been making my own bread for years using 2thirds wholemeal flour to 1third strong white (both organic).I wrap it well in a freezer bag and it seems fine-at least no-one has complained yet!

It is shop bought and brown bread has never frozen successfully for me.

Pam22, How are you storing the bread at the moment? What brand is it? Also how are you freezing it.

I use only wholemeal bread. I usually buy Warburton or Sainsbury organic (wrapped, small, sliced - think it costs about 75p). I always freeze it and have never had any problems. I keep it in the wrapper, make sure it is not too tightly packed, and I can take out 2 or whatever number of slices I need at any one time.

I have been making and freezing my own wholemeal bread for years. I just slice it and freeze it then I can take out as many slices as I need.

Give the local birds a treat. A day before it goes green throw it out for the birds. They will have young on the way soon and extra food will go down well.
