Please ask your Chefs to watch any of Rick Stein's programmes to see how to explain a recipe while cooking. Rick's commentary is concise and to the point and keeps you interested. I find many of them say unnecessary things, such as - add the onions to the bottom of the pan - where else would you put them? You cannot suspend them in mid air. I could go on and on but I think you will get my drift.
In spite of this I really enjoy the programme and watch it every day.

Valid point, and Rick Stein is excellent. However, it seems as though some chefs are actually talking out loud to themselves when they cook sometimes. Could that be?
Very Respectfully,

I know what you mean, but the important thing to note is that, it is EXTREMELY difficult at times to cook and talk (just 'cos you women can do 2 things at once).

Seriously though, it can make you mess things up a bit while trying to do both. When you are training someone in the kitchen and you are going through an important part, you can get very frustrated.

I did this for a few years and although I loved it, you could get some real pain's in the PROVERBIAL, who you knew where not going to be chefs, as they just did not have that click.

To have the gift of the gab is one thing, to combine it with cooking is another art.

You see I could have summed that up in 1 line, but oh no, I had to ramble on and on.

Sorry

Nick

Hi Livewire,

I don't feel you're comparing like with like. Rick's series are recorded with a script whereas Good Food Live is, well, live and unscripted.

Anyone who has seen the out-takes from Rick's series or his demonstrations at the BBC Good Food Show in Birmingham will know that he has a lot more in common with Good Food Live's chefs than his series indicate.

All the best,

Ian

Hi Guys, Paul Young here, and it is extremely difficult to talk, cook, explain and finish a dish in 6 to 8 minutes with 4 cameras and with millions of viewers and live.

I love Rik Stein and the way he explains but as Ian has explained he may have recorded the same sentence over and over to get it just right and not live.

I hope we explain well enough so all of you can follow and keeping if fun and exciting at the same time. It takes lots of practice in front of the camera to sound natural and relaxed.
Hope you all enjoy the show

a million loves
The very chocolatey Paul Young

Hi to all you TV chefs, I think you do a great job, wouldnt want to even try and do what you guys do. Oh the pressure!!!!. Lets face it some of the presenters cant talk, eat and find a camerah at the same time either. Love live telly makes all the difference and agree with Ian, the two just dont compare.
