We are planning a special birthday break for my husband and wondered if anyone can recommend any good restaurants in or around Kingsbridge? We have heard really bad reports about the Carved Angel in Dartmouth so decided not to chance it. Has anyone eaten at the Cricket Inn at Beesands? All advice gratefully received!!

Annie, I'm afraid the Carved Angel is not what it was when Joyce Molyneaux owned and ran it; although that is my opinion and is only based on reports from those whom I know to have tried it during the past year or so.
I can recommend RB's diner in Lower Street. Not a formal restauarant but a chef that's going places in my opinion. He makes his own ice cream as well!
Taylors restaurant is said to be good but I haven't tried it recently.
Another which is acquiring a good reputation is Sails restaurant located above the Dartmouth Yacht Club. It's open to non-members and has the best view of the Dart.
I haven't heard any reports about the Cricket Inn yet but I'll try it next time I'm in Dartmouth and let you know.
Finally may I commend a place called Alf Rescoes in Dartmouth, but for breakfast! They start serving at 0730 and within 5 minutes there's invariably a queue for tables. The breakfast menu is simply unbelievable and the atmosphere is quite unique.
