Hi folks. Does anyone know a way of calming down a spicy dish if you get a bit carried away and put far too much chilli in it? I know you can use condiments when serving it e.g. sour cream, guacamole etc. but is there anything you can add to it while it's cooking to counteract the chilli. Please help, running low on iced water!

Hi RichW,

Cream or coconut milk will help, also you can turn it into a briyani by add uncooked rice and 11/2 times hot water. Bring to the boil, cover and simmer until all the water has been absorbed.

If the dish has gravy. Mix some flour with water and add to the dish ,the flour will absorbe some of spiciness.

I've used lemon juice to good effect.

Cheers everyone - thanks for the help. I'll try them all out the next time I get a bit heavy-handed with the chilli!
