Have come to the conclusion that most peoples (at least talking to my friends) comfort food contains beans!! My favourite is 'pasta e fagioli' (pasta with beans) and also sausages and beans. Friends favourites range from Boston Baked beans, stews with beans and beans on toast. Even in the summer my favourite is canellini bean and tuna salad or those big fat greek beans in a tomato sauce. How about doing a show just on comfort foods? Let's not even talk about puddings!!! The list is endless!! What are other peoples comfort foods?

Hello Bubbi,
On a wet windy day, mine is lamb stew with mash or dumplings, with a large glass of red wine. I have never put any beans in my stews before, what do you suggest is a good starter?

Hi Marie123. Try adding a tin of borlotti or canellini beans to your stew - amazing!! Even chickpeas will make a difference. I also love bean soup with a bit of fresh chili in it!

Hi Bubbi, mine has got to be anything to do with mash & gravy, lentil soup or root veggie casseroles.

Comfort food is not supposed to be slimming Jennifer!!!

And, if you must know, I am actually a svelte size 10, with an hour-glass figure 36:24:36... (believe that you will believe anything....)

Oh Georgie,

I am the same size as you what a co-incidence.

But to get me to that size, you need to add 10
divide by 2, double it and add 4 takeaway 12 and add 6. then we can arrive at the perfickkkk figure.

about 15 years ago i found a recipie for the best mash I have ever tasted. it was called creamy brie mash and I have never served it without someone saying they wanted the recipe or that it was the best mash they had ever tasted.

I will find it and post it on the recipe section/

I have used this recipe for dinner parties ever since, and still use a versoion at home EVERY time I make mash. It varies with what I have in the fridge/cupboard but is basically the same.

will send it soon, hope you try it

Yep! Definitely beans (next to chocolate!) for my comfort food dish: fried egg, beans & chips. The beans have to be poured over the chips so they are lovely 'n' soggy. Yum! If I'm poorly sick, then my comfort food is tomato soup, with bread ripped into pieces & floated on top. Smile

What a wonderful thread! We have just enjoyed a proper ribsticking dish of slow cooked beef in Black Sheep Bitter with cremy mashed potato & buttery savoy cabbage. Delicious & makes one glad that autumn is now upon us!! For pudding (if any room left), it has to be apple crumble & custard.

That sounds excellent - Though I must admit, I don't have to be comforted to have a good old english brekkie - Like no other country can do it!!

Hi Nick! What do you include in your 'English brekkie'? Mine would be black pudding, sausage, baked beans, mushrooms, egg & fried bread. I'm drooling now just thinking about it!!

Sorry Georgie, Lorraine and Jennifer,

I've been so busy at work but will go right now to the recipie section and post CREAMY BRIE MASH.

By the way, have you all noticed that all of us, including me, think of comfort food as heavy, warming foods. Does nobody need to be comforted in the summer? ha ha
