I rather enjoy Food Poker actually, although I do agree a lot of time is wasted with the gimmicky part of the show. Hopefully they can cut it down. I've always liked food programmes that involve some sort of competition, it makes it more entertaining IMHO.

I would have liked to see Jeni as the presenter as she is very professional and over the years her knowledge of food has really grown.

I rather like Ready Steady Cook, even in its new incarnation Smile

Regardless, I'd rather watch RSC than Market Kitchen anyday! In fact, I'd rather watch ANY cooking program over 15 miutes of Market Kitchen. It's just too irritating.

I still do NOT understand the purpose or background of this show, micro. I can't believe it was actually filmed. or edited...

Someone earlier suggested it may be retribution for Atul Kutcher knowcking him out of the Great British Menu competition Big Grin

His condescending attitude is simply nauseating and embarrasses me. Eek

No! It can't be! I went about 9 months ago and had a great meal! Yes, it was relatively overpriced for the food, but it was a great evening.

Such a terrible shame. Let's hope there's a new Bordoni restaurant soon!

I feel so sorry for him and his employees...

I couldn't agree more, ticked, leave MK as it is, who really cares?

It would just be a nice gesture if they could slot in GFL Repeats somewhere in their stellar cavalcade of crap.

The execuitve offices have been abandoned for months now. I think they took the movie "28 days" seriously.

What a joke UKTVFood has become since they introduced "Market" Kitchen to the unsuspecting audience.

They think we are fools.

Argentinian beef, indeed. Hypocrites.

I've just checked barb again this week and - once again- Market Kitchen doesn't even appear anywhere in the ratings. What a disaster.

Hundreds of Posters here [if not more] have been telling UKTVFood for over six months that this show is a complete turkey and still they air it night-after-miserable-night.

Well looking at the posts on this board it would indeed seem to be the "general consensus".

It doesn't take a rocket scientist - - - really.

I agree a lot have "given up" watchine, the barb figures show us that. Again this week MK doesn't rear its ugly head even once amongst the tired repeats.

MK is an absolute loser of a programme.

I, for one, cannot wait for "that woman" to return.

At least we'd have something to watch after the past 8 dreadful months.

Sylive, this is one of the major complaints about this programme - the phoney "cafe" background. The guest audience didn't work on GFL and it certainly doesn't work on Market Kitchen.

It is noisy and distracting. The cafe attendees are talking amongst themselves, sometimes to the point where it is hard to hear the guest chef. They don't seem interested at all in what's going on [so why should we?]

The darting back and forth of "waiters" takes your attention away from what the chefs are doing and they always have someone fiddling around in the background when they do the master classes.

If the false background actually added something to the show that would be one thing, but it merely detracts.

Terrible concept.

I too would like to add my vote here to bring back Great Food Live. While I'm not a fan of Market Kitchen, I don't see any problem with it remaining on the air.

But it does appear that MK is so rigid in its format that it cannot change, therefore it would make complete sense to restore what was the flagship programme, and what UKTVFood was all about: Great Food Live.

GFL in every way WAS what made UKTVFood. Without it, it's just a re-run channel.

Foie gras again!? And it's "vegan week" according to UKTVFood. They can't even get that right. Angry Mad

I also think this Market Kitchen show has to go. It simply ruins the entire channel. I can see from the viewing figures that it's "in the tank", so they should just cancel it now and replace it with something with a wider appeal.

I think essentially a boycott is already in place looking at the numbers on the web. When the reruns of Naked Chef can get more viewers than Market Kitchen, it's time for it to be axed.

Posset, Clamato has tomato juice in addition to the Clam Juice. I buy clam juice at Sainsbury's. Just looking in my cupboard it's "doxsee's clam juice" in a 7oz glass jar. How much do you need irebon?

No, it is absolutely NOT too much to ask! Listen up UKTVFood, Market Kitchen isn't welcome into our homes.

It's boring and trite. Angry

Blessedly, I haven't seen a programme quite as tedious as Market Kitchen in YEARS....

Sorry but after all this time this show simply just does not work - in any form, that much is quite obvious.

Anyone could forgive I suppose various bits and pieces not working too well in the first season, but it came back for another season as tired and draining as ever.

And you just cannot get over having dull and talentless hosts. They are SO annoying! What criteria could they possibly have used to pick TPB or Tana. Telegenic? NOT! And smug, smirky Matt Tebbutt? Please, back to the "gastropub"? - - pretty please.

Jenni, adore or hate her, was inarguably a one-of-a-kind TV professional with years of media experience - unique and extremely dynamic - and GFL, for all the years it was on UKTVFood, never became tired. Even the final week was full of verve and energy thanks to Jeni's professionalism.

In fact, GFL kept UKTVFood afloat amongst the sea of repeats.

Sorry, Market Kitchen can't ever have high viewership, except for hardcore, die-hard foodies. It just is too dry and lacks "general" appeal.

Just watch the ratings languish in the low 30’s forever. Poor Waitrose. Cry Cry

I think most of the dishes conjured up by Matthew Fort and Tom Parker Bowles are not only amateurishly done, they are hardly inspiring.

Welsh rarebit? Good grief.

It's like the first season with poached eggs, fish pie and all sorts of other nonsense.

What is it about this programme? Everything they do seems to be deliberately done to bring extreme boredom to the viewer?

Not one thing has changed about this programme from day 1, so I suppose they must have thought it was perfect from the first episode?

Season 2 is just the same drivel as Season 1. Please give us a BREAK from this tired fare.

Certainly the "creative television minds" at UKTVFood can do better than this?

Confused Frown Confused Cry

Vim Feugo, tripe is a perfect description! What enfuriates me most about this show is how they don't involve the viewers. The cafe "people" have replaced us! They don't even look at the camera during the cooking. It makes me feel unwelcome. They act as though they could care less if anyone is even watching.

UKTVfood does have several programmes on now that are great. I like the new Giada series and have always enjoyed Contessa.

I have to agree that the repeats of Master Chef has now reached its limit. If I hear John Torode say once more "they just keep getting better and better" I'll scream Eek And those two are so inconsistent from episode to episode.

Bev, MK is simply unwatchable. I tune in a couple times a week but cannot stand more than 10 minutes. It's like taking a valium.

Oh Franci how I wish someone somewhere would listen to the viewers of this dreadful programme. I'm not an expert in television as you are but I can say that I find this programme terrible.

I too cannot understand how such a substandard programme remains on the air. As knocker2 said so well, watching grass grow is more interesting.

Can we please have some better, more lively programming instead of this MK thing?

bishbosh, your theory is the only one that makes any sense whatsoever! I just wish they'd give this programme a rest.

TPB certainly seems personable enough but sadly you're right that he's been made a presenter not from any specific talent but because of name recognition. In fact none of them are really very good at TV work.

And I'm surprised Fort agreed to ever do this show. I always had respect for him as a food critic but this show diminishes him. I think critics need to have a bit of anonymity or secrecy about ehir personal preferences and their exact knowledge of food.

By being on the show Fort becomes very "real", makes mistakes, shows his likes and dislikes and thereby destroys that sense of impartiality and objectiveness that every critic or judge should exude.

Perhaps he's made a deicison to make a career move from food journalist to "TV presenter"

Hopefully they "can" MK soon.

Yes, every episode cheers me up too. She is so warm and inviting. And she even cracks a joke or two during the show.

But it's the recipes that have captured my imagination. I always shied away from a lot of super-rich recipes but have given them a try after wataching an episode.

I really, really like this programme!

Wow, I gave up on Market Kitchen months ago! My, you have patience Bev!

For me, Barefoot Contessa is one of my all time favourite food shows. Someone else here said she modelled her program after Nigella, but I don't really see the strong similarity? Do you?

I just like the way she involves us with her life, her home, her friends and her husband. It makes the show so much more enjoyable and engaging. It's as if I know her.

And, yes, I'm very envious of her kitchen Big Grin Big Grin

A perfectly reasonable request in my mind. So many of the repeats now are over done. I didn't watch GFL too much because it was on too early but when I did I enjoyed it a lot.

If it were in my power though I would recommission Great Food Live rather than just show repeats.
