I know what you are saying because her dishes do seem well conceived but, my God, she's just SHOUTING ALL THE TIME. I caught a brief part of an episode last night and just had to switch it off. The other people were actually wincing as she SHOUTED. And she's on four times every day.. enough already!

Market Kitchen ANY day, thanks. Cheeky

I'm sort of with you maggie, I really don't care for Market Kitchen but will watch it as I love food shows.

But my thinking that MK is the worst programme on air has changed recently as all we are getting in Australia now is Rosemary Schrager, day and night, - and she is shouting at EVERYONE.

My God what a terrible TV personality.

I don't think it is likely regardless of what host they were to get.

GFL must have been horrifically expensive to produce. Didn't Jeni always talk about a full rehearsal evey morning before they went live? That would mean those chefs would have to have cooked everything twice, they must have been there for HOURS preparing for the show. And there was usually two, sometimes three, chefs on any day.

And then to do it five times a week. Somehow, just don't think so.

Well, tuned in last night and voila! a repeat from way back in early season 1?? Why would this be? We're a bit in the dark here, has something happened in the UK??

By seeing this episode, I notice how much Tana has improved - even though she still makes me nervous watching her.

PS You know who has REALLY aged in a year? Matthew Fort!

An interesting point. I would imagine it is very difficult to schedule new recipes for five shows every week without there being some overlap or repetition. They do an OK job with variety IMHO although the point on barbeque is interesting. After all, they do have an outdoor kitchen in the market to do that.

The idea of Persian, African and other cuisines is interesting...might liven up this dull show.

I think flore's comments above summarise the situation perfectly.

Ahoy "queenslander"!! I'm a New South Welshman! I and a couple friends do miss Jeni and Great Food Live too! There was nothing quite like that programme, was there? We all have problems "warming" to Market Kitchen.
But I think Jeni has moved on to radio for the time being but you can hear her on the internet, I tune in once in a while. She's as witty and urbane as ever!

Well I think it must be just a phase as all the great food programmes seem to be on holiday down under also. Not only did Market Kitchen just come back [yawn] but they've put Marco White's Hell's Kitchen on right after [double yawn]. His show doesn't hold a candle to Gordon Ramsey's show. It's so lifeless and dull.

So, needless to say, I am watching far less of the food channel here than I used to. So it appears to be the same problem.

Only my guess here..... Perhaps weight? Strong female personality? A lot of people have such prejudices.....

Ben O'Donaghue has left Britain and returned to Australia and brought the show with him here. He has chosen Irish chef Darren Simpson and Aussie Anna Gare to team up with.

It is freash, lively, educational and fun!!

Postscript: I did see though that Tana has not renewed for "the next season". Any truth to that? It *would* be a plus.

I'd love to see the link too. It's amazing to me MK is still on the air. Most of our cooking shows have sponsors here but they've never found one for Market Kitchen - and it's on during the dinner hour! We had replacement shows during our summer here and it was a most welcome change to the programming schedule. But Cry Cry it's back now......

I agree, Gordon Ramsey shows are a good substitute for Market Kitchen. I too like his Hell's Kitchen series as well as the F Word. Both are very enjoyable food programmes that can hold your interest, unlike the dreadful MK.

well, tickedoff, we are now sharing in your misery. After a well loved break from Market Kitchen it has now returned to our shores here also. And nothing has changed. It really is quite possibly the worst food show EVER.

sexy legs, there is just something about the show that makes it almost impossible to "get into".

I ran across Market Kitchen on TV again today, so I see nothing really has changed. Yawn. So I came to see the board. Nothing here either - except for BBQ's wonderful sounding lamb above.

It sounds absolutely lovely. So inspiring I'm going to give it a go on the barbie tonight!

I am waiting with posset for more recipes like that!!

And they're delicious!!! Butchers will have them, some have to be "booked in" though.

I been making them with this old, old GFL recipe for a long time now. Give it a try, you'll love it!! [link]

Funny sparky!!! We also have interminable promos for MK showing everywhere on every cable channel here too!!

I have to be with tickedoff on this one. We have MK here every weekend so just tried to give it a go once again. I can see the cooking talent, I can see some recipes that are good and do-able, but I just couldn't keep watching it. It didn't interest me. Is it the pace?? What is it exactly???

Absolutely no reason to apologise at all Olive. You opinion is as valid as anyone else's here!!

I think all that was being said is that Tana's "public persona" is merely manufactured by the multitude of PR people surrounding her, her husband, and the MK producers.

It is important that Tana is perceived as a "young mum" that cooks for her kids every day, etc, etc, etc. Whether it is true or not, that perception of her is vital to her success.

Whether she is any good on TV or in her current role is just a matter for debate, really.

Rosti, what is an LBC? I'd love to see her...is this the radio station referred to many months ago where she was doing a cooking chat show of some sort?

The Food Polka show never made it to Australia...although I hear we didn't miss much with THAT one! Smile

I don't know rosti, I'm getting a bit confused about all the versions of this programme. All we get here is tiny three minute sessions of a recipe. But they are fabulous and I've cooked almost all of them.

There's James Martin lamb dish, a Toad in the Hole, some great breakfast dishes and a dreamy lamb neck done in stock, thyme and balsamic vinegar by the chef with a lisp that was always on GFL [sorry, have a brain freeze at the moment]

The show is hosted by Anthony Worrell, the one that always gets confused and startles himself.

These little SK sessions between the regular programmes are a real highlight of the whole channel down here.

What a tragedy, I wish him a speedy recovery. I grew up on his TV shows and love all his travelogue-food programmes. So many of his dishes and shows inspired me to cook.

Get well soon!

Well I'm with you TVFood USer! It should be broguht back!! It's the only live food production anywhere in the world, and it was gREAT [hence the name]

And cornetto, I don't think that it is a foregone conclusion that it will never return. there's no evidence of that at all. It may show up on another channel or may have a different host but it is reasonable to believe that a daily, fun, live, entertaining chat and chop show will return to our screens soon!

Barsh, you would THINK so but I don't know....we don't seem to celebrate our great chefs the way that you guys do up-over. There's absolutely ZERO exposure as there are essentially NO Australian TV food programmes...they all fail.

The Kylie Kwongs and Bill Grangers all go to the UK to get "known" and these guys are far, far from the top of their field.

Do these names ring a bell?

Tetsuya
Neil Perry
Christine Mansfield
Matt Moran

actually there's a million of them now that I think of it but none on TV?!?!

Our TV food channel is merely a mirror of your channel with a few tweaks here and there.

I agree totally. Before GFL I never heard of most of these guys. They very well may have been on TV before but Jun Tanaka, Gino D'Acampo, Maria Elia, et al are all "GFL Chefs" to me!

Hi lellysmum,

I too think it amazing how loyal the viewers of Great Food Live are and after all this time they still pine for the show. I feel I'm in that group, too. Luckily over here we DO get repeats of GFL so it's not quite the same I guess. They've even started showing GFL "bumpers" of one recipe between shows which is really nice. It's good to see Martin Blunos, Paul Hollywood and the "early" Gino D'Acampo again!

It is a testament to the whole GFL team on what a great show they produced - and live at that! It must have been a very difficult task indeed.

I wish we could get Saturday Kitchen here...everyone writes such good comments about it.

Just to note that they changed the airing time of Market Kitchen here in Oz also..they've moved it later to about 6.45PM. Odd.
