Afraid so, annethered. There's always a downside!

You can either buy a jar (Merchant Gourmet make it) - and these are available from Tesco and Sainsbury - (not sure about other supermarkets) or you can make your own by simmering an unopened can of condensed milk for a couple of hours.

You might want to have a look on Amazon. There were popover pans made (I think) by Chicago Gourmetware. They were similar ones to those used on Barefoot Contressa.

They deliver quickly too, which is a bonus.

There's a recipe which Nigella Lawson uses which involves sausages and puy lentils. I think it's in her Nigella Bites book but you might also find it on her website.

What about;

Mini yorkshire puddings with a little piece of roast beef and a dab of horseradish
Baby potatoes roasted and a dab of cream cheese with chives on the top
Mini pizzas using wraps spread with pesto and dotted with crumbled goats cheese. Place in a hot oven for 5 minutes and slice into wedges.

Hope that this helps

Well, I was really disappointed at the 'magnificent feast' conjured up by Gary Rhodes after his Indian sojourn. What a kop out. Most of the recipes were nothing but a re-hash of previous GR dishes.

1. The prawns with some spices on a bed of iceberg lettuce - prawn cocktail with an Indian slant methinks.
2. Chicken fillet with pistachios (see Friends for Dinner where an almost identical dish - without the paneer and pistachios - was used)
3. Bread and butter pudding - I ask you.....

So, the only 'new' components were the eggs, the potatoes and the lamb dish.

What a missed opportunity.......

Am really disappointed that Gary Rhodes elected to fall back on his existing repertoire.

Hi finchie57

As long as you leave it somewhere where there's no draught it should be fine. I've left mine in my kitchen on top of my cooker (cooker switched off!) and it's been fine. You could always bring it in to the warmest room in the house and see if that makes a difference.

Is your yeast okay? the reason I ask is that I had a problem with dough not rising and discovered that I'd been using yeast which was out of date.

Hope that this helps.

Hi emcall

What about Heart Buchanan on Byres Road (no 380)?. It's a deli/kitchen and they do lovely fresh food and great salads. It's got a nice atmosphere too.

The posts all disappear overnight and come back at 9.00am each day. I think you'll find the links have returned.

Try Debenhams at the St Enoch Centre. They have pans suitable for paella.

Hi gdcook

Not sure if this will help but Silvana runs a company called Fork with a couple of business partners. There is a contact email address for her there.

I would insert the link but not sure how to - sorry.

You never know - you might be lucky!

Just a thought......

Maybe Gary's been driven to make this series because he got beaten by Atul Kochhar in the Great British Menu! Wink

Hi Conch

I think OysterMan means a mouli - the forerunner of the food processor, where you put the fruit/veg into the top of the mouli and turned a handle to puree the food. It had a range of blades so you could make the puree rougher or smoother.

I'm not a great cracker person either so I would eat the wensleydale with some pears or a fresh fig.

BazJay's post just reminded me....

Waitrose has Wensleydale with ginger. You might remember I mentioned Stilton with ginger that we liked. Not sure if you've tried it but thought that I might bring it to your attention

all the best

debs 172

Absolutely agree that the programming (especially at weekends) is poor and as one who, like many viewers, can almost repeat word for word most of the Rick Stein, Nigella and Two Fat Ladies shows and as someone who has voiced their frustration on these boards, I support all that you say.

New programme series starts at 9.00pm on Monday (Gary Rhodes in India) so hope that's the start of some new 'blood'

cheers

Oyster

Thanks for correcting my spelling. Will know next time.... Smile The other restaurant that I enjoy - and which is completely unlike Milsons - is La Grillade in Crows Nest. Beautifully cooked food (wonderful steaks!) in a traditional bistro/trattoria atmosphere.

I like the Bathers Pavilion at Balmoral as well - but like the fish and chip shop at Balmoral better!

cheers

GFL Forever and debs 172

The introduction of the new programme Market Kitchen and the termination of Good Food Live was not based on budgets. To my knowledge, there were a number of factors which influenced the ending of GFL but money was not the priority and was way down the list.

If you can show me something conclusive which tells another story I'll stand corrected, but until then I'd like to set the record straight. I like Market Kitchen - and quite liked Good Food (but not the presenter). I am a bit weary though, of conspiracy theorists

cheers

Hi ReedW

I believe that filming begins again at the end of this month and the series will return (same time I think) in the middle of September. Have heard nothing about any change of presenters. I wouldn't expect to see any.

On the GFL front - again, I wouldn't expect to see that, but you never know.....

poppet2

Not sure which recipe you had, but one potential cause might be that the mixture wasn't whipped for long enough. You need to beat it for between 10 and 15 minutes in order to get it sufficiently fluffy. Apart from that I can't think what it might be. Did you use proper evaporated milk?

Sorry that I can't be more helpful.

gastrosurf

I agree - the issue is cost. However the issue is not Sky's. Channels pay Sky to be included on the broadcast platform. UKTV is a joint venture between BBC Worldwide (the commercial arm of the BBC) and Flextech. That's why you see so many BBC-commisioned programmes (think UK Gold, except instead of comedy you get cookery)

TV over broadband may well generate something new but I think that it will be really small scale and done by amateurs. Nothing wrong in that, but from a quality perspective you'll need to have different expectations in terms of content and quality.

all IMHO
