How about if Sky just brings over the USA Food Network and put UKTVFood out of its misery. The Food Network carries all the best British cooking shows as well as hundreds of unique programmes we've never had the pleasure to enjoy over here.

It might even save UKTV a few quid!

No way could Market Kitchen ever be live They need all the edit time they can muster up! In fact, they could do with even more IMHO.

Imagine MF, TPB and MT not having the grace of a re-shoot? We all know the show is totally phoney.

I did see that. IMHO, Tebbutt seems almost amatuerish. Too much of the lad I guess.

But did you see the other chef's monkfish sashimi?? It looked absolutely dreamy.

MK seems a bit too brit-O-centric? The ethnic dishes always bring a lot of interest..they should do more of those. Jun Tanaka has been a good add.

I think they are just stabbing in the dark trying to find anything that pumps life into the show. Making it a carbon copy of the old GFL format hasn't worked as far as I'm concerned.

I usually do watch the show, but would watch something else if it were made available. It is just so non-descript, it's hard to describe. It plods along for an hour and - like GFL - moves from one recipe to the next, one chef to the next but just doesn't excite for some reason. Bland.

I'd agree with that. They are clearly stabbing in the dark.

This show has ALWAYS been the most subjective, inconsistent cooking show on the air. One week they'll say "this never goes with that" and the next week they'll say just the opposite.

They are SO inconsistent that you really have to take their comments and criticisms with a grain of salt.

I'm with you 1000% basky on this one. The change to Sylvana will inject some direly needed pizzazz into this glacially paced production. The new faces are most welcome

PS I think Tebbutt is not long for the show...like that mousse he tried to make back in Jan, he just doesn't gel.

Rosemary is one of the most vibrant food personailites on TV. She epitomises good TV presenting. Yes, she is often loud and talks over others but keeps every show on pace and certainly makes her point!

And she is very talented on the hob!!

Absolutely. No programme is perfect. Remember the firestorm over Rhodes Across India? Sometimes these producers just get it plain wrong.

When I checked earlier today there were 8 posts on this thread, including one from me...now they are gone? Why? There was nothing offensive, just general relief that Tana was now gone.

I, too, don't like ANY of the presenters but Tana was by FAR the worst of the pack. Even though he's not really TV material, if any are to stay it should be TPB as he's the only one that shows at least SOME enthusiasm. In fact if it wasn't for him, MF would have been gone ages ago. He's just so lifeless.

I remember that episode! Gordon couldn't hunt the bird for some reason, only locals as I recall. I don't think I've ever seen Gordon so squeamish really. His maitre d' spit it out it was so "fowl"!

This is another way of saying the show lacks humour. Or fun. Or anything remotely entertaining. It is so relentlessly dry and still tries to pretend to be something it isn't. As the flagship programme for this channel it is sorely lacking.

Could they please put an interesting home recipe on the show for once? Please.

I was wondering what motivated the change of time for the show. Clearly not everything is living up to their expectations. Surprise, surprise.

I don't think the fundamental problem is when the programme is aired, after all it's on three times a day already.

Perfectly stated. UKTVFood has gone from the channel I watched most to one I now only view rarely. All in less than a year.

My guess TVFoodie is that absolutely NO ONE knows what they are thinking. Even themselves.

Don't count on it Great Fixings, with the announcement of a "Rhodes Insults China" series and the contiunation of the abominable Market Kitchen it looks as though the channel continues to sink even deeper.

A bit harsh Vyvian, but I know what you are saying. I don't watch entire episodes of Market Kitchen, I just dip in and out but from what I've seen lately, Arthur is right. They really aren't showing anything of general interest that would make you want to try in your own kitchen. Just uninspiring, really.

They deserve just olives!! Just joking. Tapas for NYE is absolutely perfect idea IMHO.

Many great traditional tapas are vegetarian. Consider perhaps:

Tortilla espanola
Minted aubergine
Fried aubergine
cheese pinchos
marinated mushrooms
Marinated red peppers
Garlic toasts

Etc.

You could break out of the "proper" Spanish fare by including bruschetta, mezze plates, etc that are "tapas like"

Kristoff, I too think Market Kitchen is a "smug" programme, and also badly scheduled, showing recipes with "seasonal" ingredients after the season has passed. But the recipes targeted for kids on a hallow e'en evening before trick or treating at 8pm when they're all back and home [and in bed] was simply a waste

I only saw the last few weeks of Great Food Live but I also think it should be brought back as an improvement over the Market Kitchen production. It was far more fun, Jenni knew how to control the pace and she was so light hearted and humourous.

It wan't so one-dimensional, we really got to know the chefs on her show.

And what about Gordon Ramsey's shows? He has an ego approaching the size of Gary Rhodes but I enjoy every show he's ever done. They are quite entertaining and the F word is especially educational.

BUT, oddly enough, I don't think I've learnt anything about "cooking" from his programmes and have never tried any of the dishes he so briefly describes on his show: "Beef", "Chop" , "Sautee", "Serve" isn't a very helpful method

And yes please show us some repeats of the classic GFL scenes!! Especially those hilarious episodes with Gino D'Acampo
