With the new presenters they have been putting on the program seems to be gyrating out of control. Amanda Lamb seems to me to be a reincarnation of Jeni Barnett. Are they just trying to emulate the old Great Food Live now? If yes, then ho about just bringing that back?

Gurg, glad you like the suggestion. No, there's not too much dressing in my opinion. It's only about 4 or 5 tablespoons in all across all the dishes. If you think there's too much just shake it off a tad as you build each plate, but I think you'll be happy as is.

Bon appetit!

I think they try to get money from every angle, the subscription AND the sponsors. If it were just subscriptions I don't think we'd have the variety we enjoy, really. Producing TV shows is expensive!

Interesting gastro! But it does look like it is safer than the basic smoked foods themselves. I love smoked food and have my own smoker but have always known that smoke particles carry carcinogens. That's the problem with cigarettes, fireplaces and other exposure to burning substances.

It looks like liquid smoke may actually be a good attempt at cleansing the whole process (although nothing is 100%)

I guess everything is just common sense and moderation I suppose.

Well I disagree with schmaltz. In many ways Market Kitchen has morphed directly into Great Food Live, unfortunately without Jeni though. It has exactly the same format. Bring a chef in, cook somethin, taste test, have a chat session, a food history segment, bring in another chef, cook something, taste test, yada yada yada. That's exactly the same as GFL!!

What is different is the weird camera angles, the phalanx of rotating hosts and the taste tests are now done by phony cafe attendees, rather than the chefs themselves.

Big deal.

It's the same show. Just sadly without Jeni.

Sounds delightful. At an absolute minimum the chicken enchilda should be served with a side of salsa verde (mexican, not mediterranean). This would be chopped coriander, tomato, red onion, garlic, mexican oregano, salt pepper and a splash of lime juice. It complements the richness of the enchilada beautifully.

But, if you would like an independent side then I recommend a salad. I love Avocado Lime Salad, a tradition in Oaxaca. And, it's vegan so if you have any non-meat eaters attending, here's THEIR main course!

3 tablespoons fresh lime juice (1 large lime)
1/2 teaspoon salt, plus 1/8 teaspoon salt
6 small roma (plum) tomatoes, cut in 3/4-inch pieces (2 1/2 cups)
2 large ripe Hass avocados, cut into 3/4-inch dice (1 1/2 cups)
4 spring onions, thinly sliced (both the white and green parts)
2 large garlic cloves, minced
1 tablespoon extra virgin olive oil
1/2 teaspoon ground cumin (or more if you like the taste!)
1 head oak leaf lettuce, torn into large pieces (8 cups)
1 medium cucumber, peeled, quartered lengthwise, seeded and thinly sliced diagonally (1 cup) (optional)
1/4 cup tablespoons roughly chopped fresh coriander

In a medium glass or ceramic bowl, whisk together 2 tablespoons lime juice and 1 teaspoon salt. Add tomatoes, avocados, scallions and garlic. Using rubber spatula, gently fold to combine. Season to taste with pepper. In large bowl, whisk together olive oil, cumin, remaining tablespoon lime juice and 1 teaspoon salt. Add lettuce and toss. Season to taste with pepper. Divide lettuce among plates. Top each with mound of avocado mixture. Top with optional cucumber slices. Sprinkle with cilantro and serve.

I think the link between content and advertisers is much, much stronger than anyone would appreciate.

In many cases the advertisers call all the shots. Advertisers have even been successful in changing the rules of many sports. Talk about altering content!

Yes, it is fantastic news that Tana is now out of our living rooms but, I'm sorry, I think everyone is trying to make a silk purse out of a sow's ear.

Market Kitchen has nothing to commend it. The production is as plastic and phoney as the faux cafe on the show. There is nothing innovative or of interest. They treat the audience as if they were a fool.

They make even the most interesting sounding recipes as dull as dish water.

IMHO.

No, gluck, I think we understand the show all too well - it's awful. I can't even imagine how you could make it more boring for the reasons put together so well by hobmaster.

Except hobmaster forgot the dreadful presenters. They simple MUST be rid of Tana Ramsey. This is where there is hope, as Diana Henry *does* inject some level of interest to the show and, at least minimally, seems to recognise there are a few thousand [?] eyes on the other side of that camera!

Oh how exasperating this programme is. It takes real effort to get through a single show.

While I can't really say I like the programme, you're right about the "food element" gastrosurf. I too wonder why they would pick "all bright" over JB for this show? Very poor choice. But just one more in a series of stuff-ups with British cooking programmes lately.

Isn't Ed Baines great? A great foil for Jeni as he's calm, deliberate and reserved [unlike our Jeni!!]

When you mentioned putting Jeni on the roulette wheel I momentarily thought of that other (vertical) gambling wheel you see on old Westerns with Jeni tied to it revolving around Big Grin Big Grin Oh well, must be time for bed! Or a glass of red...

As you guess by the time of my post I did NOT watch Market Kitchen tonight!

I wouldn't worry about that Oyster, it's not really worth watching.

What is the top cooking show down-under right at the moment? Is there any Australian food productions we should be seeing here in the mother country??

I couldn't agree more that UKTV Food is sinking fast. Soon it will be just known as the channel that brings us Gary Rhodes and Market Kitchen drivel.

Why are they putting Rhodes on all these shows? They should just put him on MK and be done with the whole mess.

Awful, awful, awful. I can't imagine that they selected Gary Rhodes for this after his appalling - and insulting - India show. Rhodes has to be the most arrogant, self-opinionated, egocentric chef in all Britain.

And he's not that good.

It should just be called "The Gary Rhodes Show". This is not fair judging at all with just a single person's "opinion". This isn't a competition at all, it's a farce of Rhodes' "favourites".

Rhodes should not be allowed to do television until he can get a grip on his ego.

A terrible show.

And what about the other weirdness lately? Do you know where you can buy deep fried bees, per chance?

And the wonderful marinated snake. Yum.

I have no idea what "proper" means in this context. Presumably where all of us shop on a daily basis isn't "proper"

My, my!!

Well her voice is better than nothing but I agree, her energy and talent are really meant for the little screen [although I do enjoy her on the radio, too]

Since UKTVFood carries almost all of the BBC programmes, at least eventually, let's hope these shows get aired here on UKTVFood ASAP!

And guess what show it could replace?? Big Grin Big Grin Big Grin Develish

No way. I’m sorry, but not even having Great Food Live as a lead-in to this programme would have saved it.

In fact it could have hastened the demise of MK because the comparison between the two shows would have been so stark. Imagine jumping from Jeni to Tana Eek Chalk and cheese. How did they ever think Market Kitchen would fly?? Car crash TV.

To have changed the programming around the way they have – and the interminable repeats of previously aired repeated reruns – simply shows total incompetence.

I am really enjoying the "search for perfection" series now being run. Very stimuating and a completely different perspective on food. And Blumenthal is entertaining and self-depricating. It's a nice change from the likes of Tana R and Matt T, that's for sure.

A show that had Matthew Fort try to make a poached egg in a £100,000 diamond encrusted pot in front of Giorgio Locatelli? Give me a complete break.

Dreadful.

And he couldn't even make a poached egg! Complete drivel.

Barry, I think that this program is doomed. They've given it every opportunity and it just doesn't entertain.

I agree that it's now gone on far too long for anyone now to take notice if they were to fix it up. The tweaks with the presenteres hasn't reallt helped and even when they put on proven great TV chef personalities the nature of the show just drains out any personality or fun.

Gastro, I love the Hairy Bikers and it was a pleasure to see them on MK as they did indeed inject some humour into this lifeless show. I don't know why they were always being interrupted, though, as they could have handled the programme singlehandedly (doublehandedly?)

I, too, don't think I would want to subject myself to this programme if I were a celebrity chef. I'd steer clear.

I'm with LV on this one - just end the show. Like freddyG, it isn't that we've boycotted the channel but since the introduction of Market Kitchen our viewing habits changed dramatically. Every night we used to switch on GFL and the fun began......and yes UKTVFood would then stay on for the rest of the evening.

No longer. UKTVFood has ruined their own channel. Confused
