Best news in ages. How long is he planning to stay?

I gave up on this about 6 months ago but still read the boards from time to time. What irked me most about that show was - apart from M F - the presenters' lack of knowledge, understanding and experience meant that they took everything FAR TOO SERIOUSLY. Watching MK - you wouldn't really get the idea that cooking might be FUN.

Not that I do either anymore - but if push comes to shove I'd rather watch Tana than listen to Diana.

I dont really hate MK but have ignored it for the last month or so. Monday night - great Hot Pot recipe, interesting chat on gastro-pubs and then, MT's pheasant. First, a rather unnecessary filler of Matt being shown incapable of shooting a bus at point blank range. Second Matt's so-called recipe. "Just imagine these pheasants were flapping round the fields this morning and ended up tonight on a customer's plate." Zut alors! do these idiots no anything AT ALL about food?

The only food you want flapping about in the morning and on your plate in the evening is FISH. (or veg of course for the non-carnivors among us :-)

Game, Poultry and Meat all need to hang to tenderise and develop flavour. It is a completely elementary point and subject to great debate (how long, what temp etc?) but it is universally aclaimed that hanging is essential. Such blissful ignorance demonstrates the complete contempt the producers have for their viewers.

Just watched the progs with AWT & Zilli. Extremely bemused - this prog is all about Gary Rhodes - not 'local food heros' - who, at best, get the opportunity to supply with Gaz some cooking ingredients to show off his alleged skill. Rather dull and disappointing. Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

Something's happened to Gazza hasn't it? Does he sound strange to you. I reckon he's had elocution lessons - it's YOU KAY TEE VEE !! Let's hope he's not going to be as rude here as he was in India.

Good lord! Aren't they 'lifting the duckiness' to an unacceptable level?

Overheard by a mustachioed 'chef' on MK Tues. (Talking about sliced duck breast in gravy) "The foie gras enhances it and lifts the duckiness." No kidding.
I suppose there's no chance that the producers could enhance the content and lift the standard of this total drivel.

Friday's roast chicken. Watched open-mouthed while the cook advised remove parson's nose (no reason given and it's mine and Nigella's fav bit!) then advised - herbs: 'You can use anything - basil - rosemary - chervil' (Have a whiskey or a beer - you won't notice the difference) Also - absolutely no need to slash the legs on a bird of that size. A complete waste of available broadcast bandwidth.

But I've got it sussed now. So you can forget any comments - constructive or otherwise - about this second-rate show. The production company (Optomen) like others and broadcasters alike, have nothing but extreme contempt for their audiences. I'm sure they don't even bother to read this board and the thousands of adverse comments. So long as Waitrose is coughing up there is simply no problem for them. No doubt Waitose are over-excited by watching their 'English et al ' ads. I used to shop there.

I can't watch him. I'm absolutely convinced he's had elocution lessons which make his pronounciation extremely odd. (Either that of I've got a serious prob with the sound on my telly.)

Agree entirely. Better still, he doen't take himself too seriously unlike the vast majority of his peers. It's only cooking after all.

Think it's improving - MF is emerging as a thoroughly decent self-deprecating old buffer who gets in the way a bit but is eager to please. I liked his bangers on trial.
I'm afraid TPB leaves me completely cold. Enthusiastic - certainly, but my spaniel is just as keen. Some good guest chefs this week and last. I simply don't get the 'audience' - for me they are an annoying distraction. Next week? Err I think I'll give it a miss.

Rosti, I'm sure you are right. There's a veritable cornucopia of talent behind the show.

Blimey are people really still banging on about MK? I haven't watched it for ages but intend to next week to see if Series 2 is any better. BTW Rosti do you really think Flora works on MK? She seems to bright for that. Wink

I beg you. I plead with you, END THIS THREAD NOW! My original post (long since deleted by the kitchenstumffenreich at UKTV ,) was intended to be a harmless comment - subsequently completely misinterepreted by the likes of Florrie, Spudbasher, BBQbloke et al. Ok I had a bit of a dig at the totally inconsequential MK but never suggested it was the worst ever. Clearly 'Kitchen Criminals' is seeking that accolade. I watched for approx 35 seconds - Burton-Race bullying a crap cook - then turned off. I encourage you all to do the same and END THIS THREAD.

Pleeeese folks start a new board. Your fabby BBQ recipes have nothing whatsoever to do with the pros & cons of MK. I appeal to you as i get an email every time you enhance your marinades. Cheeky

Gazza - the best at 'art on a plate' is not IMO the best guy to be examining Indian cusine. Floyd did it brilliantly a decade (or more?) ago with his passion for local ingedients - the absolute key to great Indian food. Watching a foursome sipping fine wines in a flock-wallpapered upmarket restaurant is definitely NOT what Indian food is all about. Garry would do well to eschew his chef's whites and get down to street level for the ultimate eating experience. Eat curries by the road served on banana leaves - outstanding! Let's hope he makes it.
