hear hear tickedoff.

i have no time for anyone making negative comments about things they've seen on market kitchen each day - this means you are watching it each day. if you dont like it - dont watch it. it's quite simple.

i used to hate the show but have actually grown to quite like it if i'm honest. yeah, it's a bit 'up itself & high & mighty' but hey. so am i Big Grin

one of my current faves atm is 'urban pie' it's on st martins walk i *think*, they do pie & mash, gravy, baked beans etc, in a cardboard box with wooden cutlery, very eco friendly, & tasty too Smile

i think a lot of people are being really closed minded. i guess most people registered on forums like these & the BBC are massive foodies & think using canned or tinned food is totally awful, but they cant see delia is trying to reach out to people who are not so culinary minded, being realistic about people with busy, hectic, modern lives who want to eat something they can prepare as quickly as possible!

not at all! if you're talking about the shepards pie, yeah it was tinned meat & frozen potato but she used onion, carrot & swede as a base, then the leek & cheese on the top.

not everyone is a big foodie, not everyone enjoys cooking or is a talented cook. i dont think its fair to be negative about what delia has set out to do - encourage busy people to cook a healthy meal, rather than resort to a microwave meal full of e-numbers

i got her book the week it came out, it's great - made the fish pie with frozen mashed potato disks as a topping, it was BRILLIANT!! the product is just potato, milk, butter but frozen so it is convenient for busy people or novice home cooks. she doesnt use any cheat ingredients which are high in fat/sugar/addatives, just natural food made quick & easy for modern life

long live saint delia!!

i've got to admit i dont hate MK as much as i used to, although i do still find it a bit too 'preachy'
i agree it's a great way to be introduced to lots of new chefs & ingredients

i have to say i cant stand rachel allens programmes. her food is alright for family food, so i guess her books might be ok, but i find her shows quite... watery.
my faves are prolly....
masterchef goes large
anything rick stein
anything delia (i'm loving how to cook being back!)
anything nigella

i cant believe how quick people on these boards are to jump down someones throat for having a slightly contravercial opinion!! everyone is entitled to say what they want, surely thats the point of having these threads?

i LOVE come dine with me!!! it's brilliant. it's hillarious how competative people are sometimes, watching people mess up, watching people try to entertain a group of strangers. it's very interesting Smile they show it back to back for hours on more4 on the weekends. proper addictive! i'd love to go on the show myself!

this thread is brilliant! unfortunatly i didnt start school until the 90s so many things are before my time, including the 'cornflake tart' which sounds ACE!
i do have fond memories of ice cream scooped mash potatoes, & the big tray bake of chocolate sponge with custard.....
making me hungry just thinking about it!
by the time i went to secondry school all there was to choose from was burgers, chips & pizza, so nothing to reminise about there unfortunatly....

i wasnt getting at you at all rosti.... i agree it's good of the mods to just remove the bit of my post they disaproved of, i just resented them leaving the comments where i was being attacked & personally judged for starting this thread!! (granted a controversial one, but hey, thats my style!)

i've just figued out how to report someone so i have done so

i think that an 80's style party piece is definatly the best thing to do with a grapefruit Wink

hang on mods - so its ok for someone to accuse me of 'looking down my nose' at people & not being clever enough to write a cook book & i'm not allowed to defend myself?

i thought the point of these forums is for people to air their opinions about all things food related. for someone to retaliate with a totally uneducated irrelevent load of insults is just pointless & pathetic.

what a way to welcome someone to the boards

i went for my 21st birthday, it was amazing! BRILLIANT service with the waiting staff always seeming to be right there when you needed them without 'hovering' about.

i had the fishermans stew, it was various fish, mussels, razor clams etc with saffron potatoes. totally lush, one of the best things i've ever eaten!! my sister had chicken with creamy white beans, that was another favourite of mine.

wish i could attach a photo because i've got a great one of my pudding - once they found out it was my birthday they wrote 'happy birthday'in chocolate on the dish & stuck a candle in the top!

i cant actually fault anything about the place. it's all good local fresh produce, not overpriced, good service, good selection of wines.

you'll have to update the thread & let us know what you chose Smile

Rosti - tbh i didnt mean to insinuate that it was aarons 'fault' that the cock closed - i have worked as the assistant manager of a pub for a year & i know how tough it can be... the point i was trying to make is..... i just hate how they're trying to sell him as 'jamie olivers prodogy' when in my opinion he's nowhere near as talented. I have respect for the guy having written a cookery book with 'severe dyslexia' tho, i wrote my dissertation about dyslexia so it is a subject close to my heart so fair play to the guy

who knows, perhaps i'm just jealous he's a tv chef & i'm not. ha!
