I tried watching MK several times, but found it non-informative & non-entertaining, altogether boring, I usually switched over to some other cooking programme (albeit a repeat, Rick Stein, Tamasin, Barefoot Contessa, any programme by the Chef/Cook) OK - I may be old-fashioned, but the real entertainment & pleasure for me is provided by the Chef/Cook.

I really would like to find the recipe for cream cheese pastry, which was featured on GFL Extra, but have had no luck. Any help/tips would be appreciated.

Ironic that leaf gelatine appears to be so hard to get, I can't get powdered gelatine anywhere! All my recipes using gelatine are old & use powdered (2grams, 1/2oz, 1 pkt etc), & I'm having a devil of a job trying to convert powdered gelatine to leaf gelatine (which seems to be all I can get now) Any tips would be helpful.

I agree with Katiej, I loved the programme, & am sorry it's finished.

I don't think GFL is aimed at people who can or can't afford the ingredients, it's pure entertainment, along with a few good tips & information.. Even if I could get some of the ingredients, I couldn't justify spending my non-existant income on them.. but I do spend what money I have on SKY to watch these programs, it's my choice (whilst munching on cheese on toast it's nice to see what's on offer) & some recipes that don't include expensive cuts of meat or fish (or free-range stuff) I can do...
Late-night supermarket shopping is all very well if it's not the big T (which doesn't reduce prices significantly) & if it's within walking distance, unlike where I live, 4 miles away, & a bus fare of £3.60. No bus service after 18:00hrs

Thin slices of Papaya wrapped in Parma ham, with a dressing of lime juice mixed with a tsp of sugar..
My favourite nibble is dates stuffed with pineapple cheese, & japanese rice/seaweed crakers are good

I don't seem to be able to find recipes I want.. maybe I'm doing something wrong.. e.g. wanted the Lotte Duncan recipe for Gammon steaks with honey/mustard/cider but no joy, there's been quite a lot of other recipes from GFL Bites (weekend) that I've tried to get, but I've never suceeded

I loved the eggs I used to be able to get from a local "hen keeper" - they were fresh, big FAT golden yolks, tasted wonderful (didn't matter how you cooked/used them) ..but they don't sell them any more.. since then I've gone right off eggs, since all the supermarket ones, & even the ones sold in farm shops (as free-range) are not a patch on those lovely ones I once had.

Delia has a recipe for Buttermilk scones with Cheshire cheese & chives in her book 3 of "How to cook".

Some tips on WOKS & their use (or not) on electric hobs would be useful!

Oh give me scones, sweet or savoury, warm & squidgy.. but most importantly how to produce them for a one-person portion (about 3 scones) Any uncooked scone-dough freezable recipes?.. or any scone recipes that are good cooked & gone cold.

Thanks all, for the info about cleaning wax off lemons/limes..if it is water soluble then the gentle scrub & washing should work for me, I assumed it was like candle wax which is impossible to remove! & thanks Feathers for understanding I may be in an area where I cant get unwaxed lemons (I can actually - but not unwaxed limes) not cooking anything in particular, just use a lot of lemon/lime zest in various recipes, like mousses sweet & savoury, jellies etc.

Very basic question! (another way of saying a stupid question)
What is the best way to wash waxed lemons/limes before use.

In cold water & wipe them or scrub with a brush ?
or in hot water, wipe or scrub with a brush ?
..or pop them in the washing machine Smile

I can never tell if I've got the wax off or not.

I can't stand Kitchen Takeovers either, the "contestants" dont seem to be allowed to do anything, just watch a chef, the food is not their own, they have no input. Wasn't too keen on Paul Roseby either, however I have revised my opinion of him since seeing him on GFL on Friday, I thought he was excellent as a host, perhaps a studio audience brings out the best in him.

Like Baboush I am a tad sick of the repeats, I know them all off by heart (I'm a bit of a TV Food-watching addict)... my choice would be something new from:
Hugh FW, Nigel Slater, Ben O'Don?, & what about something from Lottie D & Silvana.

Really liked the series "Ever Wondered About ..." it combined cooking with food history, I think it was an Open University thing.

A series in a cooking school (like Rosemary ??) would be nice, perhaps you could persuade Prue Leith to do such a program ! .. but please no more AWT

Hels Bels - I believe that other dish (James Martin)uses a lot of Basil in his sweets/puds. I remember seeing a sort of jelly/fruit terrine with a layer of basil in it.. could have been his recipe, whatever, try looking through his recipes, he certainly seems keen on basil with sweet things. Talking of basil I've just discovered lemon basil in an upmarket supermarket, you don't need to eat it just smell it!

p.s.
I've also got some paprika from Spain in cute little tins, dulce & picante (which I assume means sweet, smokey) ?

Craig - good to hear about the proposed new series with Lesley W. (I do like her.) My store cupboard is fairly well stuffed with things I only use once or twice, mostly spices/vinegars..problem is most don't keep very long & I never seem to have all the other ingredients that might be used with these items. Have cardamom pods, celery salt, sherry vinegar, balsalmic vinegar, Angostura bitters, Rice flour, almonds, hazelnuts, pine nuts. Also got loads of lemon balm, mint, sage, marjoram in the garden & a tree laden with pears (but they are not very edible).

GFL today with a live (small) audience was really enjoyable, & its good to hear peoples experiences who were in the audience...only wish I could go, but live too far away.

Video clips
Broadband is not available in many areas of the UK
Lots of us don't have Broadband
because of not being available or because it costs too much
