My eldest is going to have her Bday party in September and would love to have a chinese buffet.
Two problems though:
* some people in my family eat Kosher
* some are vegetarians
* My parents do not like Chinese food at all!

suggestions from chinese bufffet experts are welcome!

When you say your parents don't like Chinese food, have they tried a wide variety, or have they just tried the gloppy bits from bad restaurants (sesame chicken, that sort of thing)? Why not have:

* some barbecued spareribs, but instead of pork, have beef ribs - the barbecue sauce should have hoisin sauce, five spice, ginger, garlic, Shaoxing wine - sweet and sticky and really tasty
* you could do the same with chicken wings
* "pearl balls" - usually a meatball made with ground pork, and ginger, onion, spring onion, a variety of seasonings, rolled in glutinous rice and then steamed - but to keep kosher you could use ground veal to preseve the mild flavor
* steamed buns - you can buy these frozen in the Chinese section of a good supermarket - usually filled with barbecued pork but often you can find green onion, which is delicious, or plain, which you can fill with something you make yourself - saute up some spring onion with chicken, soy, ginger, garlic, rice wine, hoisin sauce, and make a little chicken bun.
* Some green vegetables - spinach or broccoli rabe - sauteed in oil with garlic, finished off with oyster sauce. Not kosher, but serve the oyster sauce on the side and let people choose.
* Kung-pao chicken, maybe? Chicken, peanuts, hot peppers, spring onions, chillis, ginger, bound with a light sauce - delicious.
* Noodles - I believe these are traditional at birthdays as they symbolise long life, so do have some wok-fried long wheat noodles - fried with shredded onion, carrot, shiitake mushroom, some bits of meat, seasonings like soy, sesame oil, chilli oil, etc

Let me know if you want more suggestions

Thank you very much!
steamed buns could be great for my parents (as they don't like spicy or fried food)
are they yeast-based?
