I can't believe that Tesco & sainsbury have discontinued frozen Broad Beans. I have found them in Waitrose but it's a bit of a hassle to go there just for that. Both my local stores stock all sorts of international ingredients - why can't they stock such a great British product Mad

So that's why we can't find any! None in Morrisons either - I thought there was some sort of crop failure. We need Delia or Jamie to use them in a recipe and they'll come flooding back. Thanks for the Waitrose tip, I'll try them, have been watching beans growing in local fields with thoughts of a night-time raid Wink

Waitrose have stopped doing them as well. I tried to get some today so I then went to Sainsbury and then Tesco's and got the same answer. 'Stopped doing them', I asked why and nobody knew why, the girl in Tesco's ventured that perhaps they weren't selling. I replied that if everybody stopped doing them they should start doing them and get everybody's custom. Blank looks all round. I can't believe that they've all stopped doing them because they're not selling. Waitrose specialise in that sort of niche marketing so I think there are other factors at work. Perhaps Birds Eye are having a pricing battle with the supermarkets or their suppliers. I think it's slightly sinister.

Unbelievable! My local Tesco used to sell out of Birds Eye baby broad beans almost as soon as the freezers were re stocked. I have found frozen broad beans in M&S but I'm afraid they're not a patch on the Birds Eye ones. Confused

I too was pretty upset - I love broad beans! Here is the explanation...

The problem is that flooding and an invasion of African beetles have ruined crops and stocks have finally run out. If you want to read the full article, you can go to

I'm going to plant a few rows next year and freeze some myself.

Whoops, my link has not been posted (is posting a link against the rules?). Anyway, the full article can be found on the Telegraph website. Just type 'broad bean shortage' into the search box.

On the bright side, this year's harvest is coming through, so apparently they should be back on the shelves in the next few weeks.
