I have been searching the websites for importers/exporters of Morton Bay Bugs. I first tried these delicious lobster type seafood in Australia about six years ago. In the towns of Tweedheads and Cairns they were served with steak (what an absolute treat!). Are they only available for a short season? And is this why we are unable to order them online in the UK? Or are the lucky ozzies keeping them for themselves? Smile Big Grin If anyone knows where I can order them please let me know as I am now getting desperate for the flavour I remember!

Meerkat, I asked around Sydney fish markets early this morning to see if anyone knew offhand of an exporter of bugmeat and came up dry. I'll keep trying but it may be just one of those things! They'd be frozen and retail here at AUD79 a kilo. Best way is to buy in bulk uncooked, flash frozen and already shelled.

Thanks OysterMan for asking around the fish markets. Hopefully an enterprising exporter will hear of your enquiries and start exporting bugs to the UK. If you hear of anyone starting up please let me know. I reckon he could make a bundle as there must be many people here who have been to OZ who would like to order. Smile

Hi TV Foodie, and thanks for the link which I followed. I noticed something about they are not taking internet orders, but to make an order they say to upgrade to higher incription (128 bit ?). I'll have to look into the upgrading and see where it takes me. Smile

Hey meerkat. I'd just give them a call to order. Nothing like low tech!! I've used them for kangaroo meat and they're very good. If you want a dreamy recipe look for "bug cakes".
