Not another thread , you scream, but this is entirely different as it asks the FMs suggestions on how to make it even better than it is now. Wink

I'll start -

1. Have a permanent 1 or 2 presenters (keeping TPB of course Wink )

2. Too many gimmicks & very uncoordinated...get rid...leave those to Ready Steady Cook clowns!

3. Keep the flow of the programme efficiently. Do not have camera in the studio one sec then taking a random shot of the market with no substantial content only to go back to the studio to announce a quick break or whatever ....what the ****!!!

4. The segments are also all over the place ....keep it tight & solid.

5. over to you...

lol I knew that thread which I started (ex baboush) will come up somehow.

But Dougy this thread has a slightly different slant than that thread.

This is about "keeping the program & making it better" as opposed to " how to gain viewers"....i hope i'm making sense anyway. Wink

Well, you make complete sense. Your criticisms are spot on and if they did 1-4 it would be a MUCH more watchable show....

I really enjoyed the Matt Tebbut segment when he was out of the market and cooking in Norfolk,,,it made a nice change. I hope they do more,,it sounded like they might be a few more.

Sad to say I'm no longer a fan of this programme if I ever was. I think I gave it a fair hearing but it started out as weak and has gone steadily down hill. Cheers Mike

Market Kitchen is now starting to get on my nerves, I wonder if Tom P B was not the stepson of the heir to the throne would be given any airtime. Bring back Jenny with GFL

John, there is absolutely no doubt whatsoever that his name got him the job. It's all about ratings. He's clearly a TV amateur and still often seems awkward in front of the camera.

That being said, though, TPB is the only presenter there that seems genuine and his eagerness for food is evident. Nothing phony there (unlike everything else on the show)

Yes, MK does grate on the nerves but there's nothing else on so we've got little choice in new daily food programmes Cry Cry

And I do appreciate TPBs advocacy of chillis and "hotter" foods!

I too lament the loss of probably the most innovative food programme ever to come out of the UK - Great Food Live. There's has never been anything like it.

Ref dunpayin's message on Tom PB - I think Tom fits the job very well - true, he doesn't seem to have huge TV experience but he comes across as genuine and clearly has a true interest in food. With the other presenters, he gives a good balance; I have to say I'm always happy when I see Tom is "on" an episode.

Dunpayin, MK has *always* gotten on my nerves! Big Grin As for TPB, he is - by far - the least offensive of the presenters. He has no ego to speak of, he is genuinely keen on food and doesn't have the annoying habits that are the hallmark of Tebbutt, Fort and Ramsay. I am glad they are juggling the line up of hosts, although I don't undertsnad why they need so many? It diminishes the personality of the show.

"although I don't undertsnad why they need so many?"

Could it be to stop any one presenter taking over and it becoming "Their" show?
Do agree about about TPB's and still think MF should stick to what he's good at. Stay out of the kitchen but still talk food.
Seem to recall MF's mishap on one of Rick's Series with a green, furry terrine.
Where yer bin Baz? TR's been gone ages. Big Grin

I think you also have to remember that Tebbut and Jun Tanaka are working chefs,,so they couldn't do the show full time.

Then again the Fort and Silvano Franco are invloved with other shows and writing about food etc.

And of course Fort needs his time off to holiday in Italy, eat some more ice cream,,,blah,,blah

Spot on Barshedale ! I'm sure thats the main reason , caused too many problems in the past me thinks !
Also , with a mix of presenters , most viewers ought to be able to find one they can empathise with . We all like different things , and some people annoy us and some people don't , by using more presenters , more guest chefs , and different chefs again cooking in the market , they are hoping to please most viewers . Athough unfortunately they are never going to please all , but then some people revel in being "awkward " and difficult to please.
I enjoyed MK when it first began , and I think it's gone from strengh to strengh . Many changes have taken place ,and I consider it a really interesting programme .
I find that I can usually learn something I did'nt know from each programme , and I like to see the different techniques that the chefs use , especially as they are usually pretty good at explaining what they are doing and why.
My least favorite part is where the presenters cook , sometimes it works , at others it can be a bit cringy . Some are obviously better at demonstrating and explaining than others , and it would be better if "the others " did'nt have to do it .
I'm sure MF does enjoy his holiday in Italy , where better to eat ice cream . Although I'm sure I read somewhere that it was first made in France for one of the kings , proberbly Louis X1V , he seemed to be involved in most things !

I'm with Jack on not liking the host's doing the cooking, particularly Matthew Fort's concoctions. Some are quite dreadful.

It's my least favourite part of Market Kitchen. Let's keep the cooking to the guest chefs.

Dare I ask what Amanda Lamb is doing on MK , cos I missed the begining of the programme . Like her a lot , but oh dear , what was she doing to that poor mango ?
Just shows , those that can , cook , those that can't should n't !
She was good fun I think MT needs to be teamed with the girls , to stop him getting too laddish and matey with the boys .

Last night was a bonus for me . Two of my favorite ladies , Amanda Lamb and Tonia Buxton , talking about two of my favorite subjects , food and travel .
They really seemed to be enjoying themselves , watch us lads . These ladies could end up taking over !
OK , so I realise thats most unlikely , but is does the lads good to know that there are good female presenters around .
I would n't like MK to start becoming a "boys own forum," for their own edification and enjoyment .

Well I've just read Amanda Lamb's biography on her website and she sounds like an absolute hoot! Sort of a young Jeni? I can't wait to see her here in Oz.

I don't know Frannie, that's why I was asking because someone suggested it on another thread. While it has improved over the past two years, it's still not that great. If it were to go that would give them an opportunity to slip insomething better. However I would be surprised if it is cancelled, they surely would have said so (I think). And how could they cancel it just as the Manda and Matt romance starts to blossom? That would be so cruel!
