UKTVFood, could you please give us an answer to a very straightforward questions:

Why are you not running repeats of Great Food Live?

Could it be perhaps that they have listened to the complaints about too many repeats from 98.7359% of us all and after all, I do speak on behalf of all the posters that contribute to this forum.

I can see the logic in your point Barsh as I am very tired of repeats on UKTVFood but I think I'd reserve that for repeats of shows I've seen 9,435 times or ones that I only saw a month ago. Some of these shows are very, very tired indeed.

As for GFL, they could go back five years and - while technically a repeat - I would submit that many if not most current viewers would have never seen them, myself included.

So it is a matter of degree, this "repeat issue" IMHO.

So again UKTVFood, Why are you not running repeats of Great Food Live?

I believe at one time a member of the UKTV Food team mentioned that there were problems due to out of date prices being quoted and items mentioned that were no longer available etc.

If the truth be known I'd bet that no repeat rights, fees were ever sorted out.

I wouldn't mind watching a half hour "highlights" show a few times a week but I honestly couldn't sit down to a blanket of repeats from day one.

Now I'm guilty of hijacking. This should not be on the Market Kitchen thread at all.

It does strike me also as some sort of rights issue and someone else has reported that repeats are airing in Australia and New Zealand. The idea of a highlights programme would be good.

And I agree totally about blanket repeats or even worse IMHO is one of those weekend marathons where they broadcast back-to-back episodes ad infinitum.

I wonder why UKTVFood just doesn't post and answer, regardless of why they aren't showing them?

"I wonder why UKTVFood just doesn't post and answer, regardless of why they aren't showing them?"

With you 200% on that statement.
A few straight answers from them would probally.
1. Ease some of the for/against antagonism.
2. At least let us know the posts are being read by someone other than a 3rd. Party, which most of us were well aware of anyway.
3. Open a massive can of worms.

They you go for a new ingrediant. Recipe for a can of worms please. Develish

The only thing I can add TVFoodie is that UKTVFood has demonstrated an incredible level of arrogance and aloofness in this whole debacle. Their programme has gone into the toilet and yet they don't provide a single remedy.

They won't even answer your simple question posed as to why GFL reruns aren't being shown, even if it were to be 3am.

The just keep shoving this fodder onto our screens night after night without a hint of responsiveness.

The big loss of Great Food Live is indeed Jeni. Every dish was like a mini-interview of the chef. We really got to know the chefs, their restaurants, their likes and dislikes, their families, their history.

You learn nothing of the chefs on Market Kitchen. The host just sits down and blurts out inanities from his chair once ina while. The chef never narrates the method properly, usually misses out the temperature or time in the oven, pours in an ingredient that remains unsaid...terrible.

What are they thinking?

Cornetto has suggested Jeni host Market Kitchen. Why hasn't anyone thought of that! That would fix so many problems.

Because getting rid of GFL was the best way to get rid of Jeni instead of sacking her and replacing her.

I agree with Bazza about the "human" side of Great Food Live that is completely absent from the ultra-dry Market Kitchen. The chefs and Jeni really, truly interacted as people - rather than their stilted performances on MK.

She kept the dialogue going, asked the chefs personal questions and we really did get to "know" the chefs in a human sense on Great Food Live

GFL did am incredible job of building the "celebrity" of these chefs in a way that MK could never hope to do.

And it was all due to Jeni's talent and professionalism.

That was the point I tried to make about Market Kitchen. It's just another vapid cooking show cut from the same mould as a thousand others. Unexciting to say the least.

GFL's live format, rapid pace, varied guests and bon vivant host was totally unique. There had never been anything like it.

And it's still sadly missed.

A really excellent point schmaltz....Market Kitchen is like evey other chop-and-chat food programme on the air. Saturday Kitchen, etc...there's a million of them. But MK stands out because it is so terribly produced and the hosts are so lacking in any TV skills.

Thanks insider, I don't know why all cooking shows eventually degenerate to the same old chop and chat format as you called it. I just read on another thread about how much money GFL must have cost to produce. I never really thought about that as such and maybe that's why a live cooking program just could not survive. They had to be in the studio five days a week ten hours a day. That must have been tiring.

But things are looking up now for MK with the jettisoning of TR.

Fingers crossed there "S".
A fish out of water and I was one who was more than willing to give her a chance but it was not her forte. She just does not seem suited to TV, so best stick to the odd Homecooking for Kids books.

Has anyone ever definitively answered the question as to why Great Food Live is not shown as reruns on some channel somewhere?

Strangely enough, no. It has just been left to us and supposition.
Even I advocated and would enjoy watching a Best of Compilation.
From the decision and announcement to drop it, to date, there has not been anything from the powers that be in way of an answer to the many questions posed on here.
So it's left to us to guess. Gagging clauses in contracts perhaps. No repeat rights issued or even, such an acrimonious parting from those involved that it's a clandestine battle going on.

OK then, it has been well over a year passed. Can we please see repeats of Great Food Live now? Mad Mad Mad
