Replace MK with GFL Reruns?

I wonder if it would be possible for UKTVFood to replace MK with GFL Reruns??

There are five years of timeless, inspiring recipes delivered in an educational and entertaining way. This would give the programmers some "breathing room" after the MK debacle as well as save them some cash whilst they create a proper live food program.

And Waitrose would then get the audience numbers they're looking for!

That is the best idea I've heard here! They were looking for constructive ideas on how to improve the programming and this one is brilliant. It solves everyone's problem in one go!

There must be 1000 episodes to pick from. They could even do theme weeks or edit them around a single ingredient, chef or cuisine. Terrific!

Every day posters quite rightly complain about repeats, repeats, repeats. Is not rerun another word for repeat? When are you all going to accept that GFL is now history and the "Nearly Made It" has gone as well.
Stop keep harping on about it and move foreward.

well, jeni said on her blog that the producers of GFL are workking on getting it back on air (i would imagine not on uktvfood though Wink )
so gfl may not be history after all

i do hope gfl comes back, it was a fabulous programme with a wonderfull vivacious presenter

Barsh..we HAVE accepted that GFL is history but what we are trying to say to UKTVFood is this:

Cancel MK immediately and place repeats of GFL in its place so that we have soething to watch AND so that viewers return back to UKTVFood.

They're killing themselves...That's all we're saying!

Well, you may be right...GFL may be resurrected but you're right, not on UKTVFood. BTW Cheese obsessive..how did you know that!?

So don't "accept" that GFL is history..it looks like it's not at all!

if you read jeni's blog (www.jenibarnett.com) she makes a comment there about the possible return of GFL, about how the producers or whoever else might be in charge of getting the programme back on air are "working on it"
the post is called st albarns i believe

I've found GFL repeats on UKTV Bright Ideas, thanks Dougy Boy. I now realise how much I REALLY miss this show......

GFLForever, I think you're right, UKTVFood is just killing itself with the repeats of reruns and then axing GFL and "replcing" it with that dreadful MK programme.

But in the end I have faith it will all fix itself...the sponsors - via the viewership - will rectify the current situation.

Couldn't disagree more Martin02. If Jeni was a bit part actress, what do we have now in Tana? an Extra. Reg.

Jeni WAS the best, in a fews eyes. WAS is the word. 5 years ago she WAS the best on a new and minor channel she lost it about 3 years ago

She was a bit part actress look at her cv no major stuff only bit parts glf was her meal ticket, it went to her head.

The live and same day repeats didn't make the grade so repeats or reruns wont either.

The flagship sank, without trace. now only a nervous wreck beneath the waves.

This thread is called Market Kitchen so is about mk not jb or gfl

This thread is about MARKET KITCHEN
not about GFL or Jeni or anything from the past

Comment here about Market Kitchen.

Someome has said the GFL messageboard is still going. that must be the place to go.

MickeyT, I created this thread and is IS about MK - specifically, replacing MK with either a fixed-up version or if no one is creative enough at UKTVFood, then repeats of GFL. You don't need to be in this thread if you don't want. If you want to make positive comments on MK then Rosti's "positively started" is a thread you can contribute to.

TVFoodie...your wish may come true..looking at the numbers I got from BARB by e-mail is very interesting, not only the programme ranking in the top 10 which everyone here seems to talk about but toal viewership which is of course what the sponsors are looking at.

Ranking and total weekly viewship for GFL:
25/2 #3,10 > 426,000
4/3 #5,7,8,10 > 471,000
11/3 #1,5,7 > 449,000
18/3 #2,4,6,9 > 493,000
25/3 #1,2,4,5,6 > 486,000
1/4 #4,5 > 394,000
8/4 #2,3,8,9 > 472,000

Then, of course, the switch to MK happened and we now have:
22/4 #1 > 258,000
29/4 #7 > 203,000
6/5 No ranking > 194,000
13/5 No ranking > 177,000
20/5 #7 > 211,000
27/5 #3 > 205,000

MK has never had more than one rating in the top 10 so far, where GFL often had 3,4 or more entries within the top 10 ranking for a week.

So, although influenced by weather, other programming, etc, in general GFL had twice the viewership of MK.

Doug,

MK has had more than one entry in the ratings, I've posted them previously on the main MK thread.

Whilst GFL could well come back, it wasn't on at the same time as MK so whilst I have also banged on about the ratings, they can't be taken to literally, must compare apples with apples, MK against the old eight o'clock slot programming.

MK has been commissioned for a minimum of 1 year, UKTVFood have bet the company on it, they can't afford to cancel it!

Taking the eight o'clock slot vs MK, MK isn't doing too badlyas a regular show, against one off short series then it can look worse off.

Cheers,

Adam.

If UKTVfood Can't afford to cancel it..why do they keep it on the 8PM slot? Move it to the old successful GFL slots would seem the logical move.

Here in Australian MK has almost killed our Food Channel...no one is watching anymore. Everyone has completely underestimated the loyalty that viewers had towards Jeni Barnett I think.

Looking at Doug's statistics there's no wonder there's trouble brewing! Knowing what little I do about TV, the "commissioning" of a show for a year doesn't mean by a long shot that that is what really will happen.

You'll have to admit it REALLY is a dreadful show!

Commissioning a program means nothing. A Network can cancel a show at anytime if it's proving to be a ratings flop, this is how ruthless networks in US are, & over here ITV are exercising the same culling method too.

Problem with UKTV Food is that it has nothing else to offer in terms of new primetime programme. Unless they're brave enough to cut their losses then this dross of a show MK might just continue......queston is for how long?

Meantime it would be wise for the producers to take drastic actions to keep it afloat at least & take notice of what the viewers are complaining about & rectify it.

No wonder producers are already talking to Jeni!!!

I believe that the producers have taken notice from the constructive comments received. If you compare the show in April to now I think that there is a tangible improvement.

Producers may be talking to Jeni Barnett ( the rumours mostly come from her own blog) but I doubt if you'll see her on UKTV Food in the near future. Again, it's my opinion only but I wouldn't hold my breath if I were you....

Don't worry I'm not holding my breath for anything lol!!! Big Grin

I can't compare like for like episodes way back because since I gave it a go from it's first airing & painfully watched Tana & Matt T & really have given up.

I only flicked back on it last week for a bit of watching because I like Angela & curious what's she'll be like ( SEE MY THREAD "TOM< MATT & ANGELA - WHAT A TRIO").

And last night I thought I'll see what sort of changes producers have done with regards to Tana & Matt's presenting & you know what....few minutes of looking at them & listening , once Tana managed to open her mouth to murmur something, I was so turned off by watching them & couldn't swtich channel fast enough!!!

As I said before Tana & Matt are ther main problem of the show because last week Matt & Tom were just fabulous (obviously enhanced by the presence of equally fabulous Angela).

T & M just do not have that oomph to front a show, whatever a show imo and tbh Tana is the worst of the 2 & I'm absolutely sure I'm not the only one who express this dismay.

Agree with you - I thought that Tom and Matthew with Angela were just brilliant! Give Angela her own show I say- what a natural communicator!

Also agree that Tana and Matt have a bit of catching up it's still a bit tense - I just wonder if it might be interesting to swap the pairings to see if we get a bit more dynamism.

You just said the magic word "Communicator". And imo this word applies to Tom, Matt, & even Matt T to a certain extent if only he could control his arrogance & ego trip!

Weakest link really is Tana who I think is inherently soft spoken person. And if you're naturally like that then there is no place for anyone who speaks under her breath to fron a show let alone a primetime show who's banking on engaging viewers for ratings purposes otherwise why primetime slot???

I really don't care what happen to Tana & Matt (forgot to say he's also irritating), they can get rid of them for all I care as they're unnecessary & not contributing to the development of the show , BUT the producers SHOULD capitalise on the perfect chemistry between Tom & M Fort & even have them fronting the show full time.

Baboush & Jan - I've said since MK started that the chemistry between Matt & Tana is not right somehow. I feel that swapping the pairings would be a mistake as it might end up with both not being right. Tom & Matthew really works so keep them together. I like both Tana and Matt but don't feel either of them make good presenters - Matt keeps rushing and tends to want to take over and Tana is not confident enough to stop him. Anyway, at least MK has made improvements since it started and is worth watching. I do wish the Jeni/GFL supporters (and I was one of them) would stop bombarding the site and learn to live with it. Hopefully both Jeni and GFL will find a good home somewhere else.

NW Gormet, thanks for your post, but why cannot we make our message clear that we liked the show and put in our 2c worth that we did not want it to end? Isnt this how tv gets its feedback?

Shelley

What are you doing still awake - is it not the middle of the night where you are? Smile

I understand your post and I understand that you are a fan of GFL - no-one can dispute that! I guess that looking at the situation realistically and from a hard cash point of view, it's not likely that GFL will come back. There's a number of reasons for that - not least that the production company who did GFL are now working on another channel and the new production company (and remember it's the same people in this company who did The Naked Chef and Two Fat Ladies) have a contract which will still have to be honoured.

GFL took a long time to get going - what I can't understand is why MK hasn't been given the same chance.

All the best
