While MK is certainly in the list, I'm with babsky. The New British Kitchen is just terrible and really there's no need to comment on any of Gary Rhodes' newest productions. What's happening lately to the quality of new cookery programmes? No wonder everyone craves the old repeats!

Could I add RSC? Awful. Never have gotten anything useful from that show.

But Gary Rhodes has to "take the cake" as the absolutely worst food presenter/chef in all of TV land. Dreadful.

Can they not simply get a professional TV presenter to host this show so that the chefs and their work can be properly spotlighted?!?! Angry Angry

I've just endured another sleep inducing episode. Give it some life, TV professionalism, pep and pace. PLEASE!!! Arrgh...

A very interesting comment, burgers. The presenters DO upstage or detract from the day's guest chefs, don't they?

Very interesting!

As did JB , to the detriment of GFL , which could have been why it was taken off the air , and why on MK there is always more than one presenter . Perhaps they learnt from their first mistake of allowing a presenter to become more important than the programme ?

That's why I think Great Food Live was so good Burgers. You had a professional presenter (which is essential in a live TV show just to keep the proceedings on track). There just is no room for error - particulalry with the clock.

Jeni knew exactly when a chef was waffling on too long, or a dish wasn't cooking fast enough and the clock was running out. She did an absolutely brilliant job of delivering the show on time, with quality, day after day after day for five years.

Imagine if Market Kitchen were live?! I shudder to think. It would be one stuff up after another. Poor substitute.

No way could Market Kitchen ever be live Eek They need all the edit time they can muster up! In fact, they could do with even more IMHO.

Imagine MF, TPB and MT not having the grace of a re-shoot? We all know the show is totally phoney.

Spicee. That JB was such a clever girl eh?
Nother to do with a producer shouting instructions down her earpiece.

Jack. At the end of the day, it's her direct boss and what he says goes. A clue to her demise on yet another Channel in her Bridge Burning Career perhaps? Before anyone starts, read her blog. Had the sack more times than a coalman.

Yes, Jeni was certinaly a master at keeping things going wasn't she? I remember she had Reza Mohammed Eek on the show and he was literally all over the place, yakkety yakkety and she finally exclaimed "LESS TALKING, MORE COOKING!"

It was hilarious Big Grin Big Grin I really miss GFL.

Amazing isn't it, more than a year after and people are still talking about Jeni, mostly good, one or two not so. Was it Jeni who said "I'm like marmite, people either like me or hate me".

I'm glad to see she's doing so well on LBC, far bigger audience too and very good luck to her.

I wonder if people will be talking about Tana Ramsay in a year's time?

(Tana who?) Cheeky Cheeky Cheeky Cheeky

Exactly the point dusty.
Talking about her, not the show. Get to be I'm bigger than the programme = kiss of death.
Sorry but that's the way it works. Angus Deighton on Have I Got News for You for example.

Dustyfrg, long time no hear! Hug It is indeed amazing. I rarely post anymore but I don't think I've ever seen a TV programme so missed judging by all the comments here. An iconic TV show, it is like a lost friend.

Amazing, indeed. Best wishes.

With the new presenters they have been putting on the program seems to be gyrating out of control. Amanda Lamb seems to me to be a reincarnation of Jeni Barnett. Are they just trying to emulate the old Great Food Live now? If yes, then ho about just bringing that back?

Thanks GFLforever Hug I stopped posting because I just gave up on Mkt Kitchen as it was so dire, also there seemed to be people on here multi posting, pretending they were one person then replying to themselves saying "Oh blabla what a wonderful post, you're such a wonderful person". Too bizarre for me. You also never knew in those days which posts would stay or go!

Anyway I'm sure Jeni won't be back on our screens anytime soon, she's doing just fine on the old radio getting probably at least five times the listeners UKTVFood will ever get. I don't live in London but I get LBC on my Sky box.

I rarely watch UKTVFood now apart from the Barefoot Contessa (but they're mostly repeats). Was it Patricia Routledge that said the BBC is run by 10 year olds? Add UKTVFood to that I think!

All the best, keep on truckin.

I came back last week to have another try with Market Kitchen but it is worse now - Amanda Lamb is awful, is it the Amanda Lamb show now. Cooking/food takes second place to the interaction and competition between presenters and it is so dull!

I have been watching market kitchen over one year. Amanda lamb was on last week and the show which i have enjoyed has gone down hill. If
Amanda is going to present market kitchen I will sadly say I will not be watching it. Angry

Gary Rhodes should never have put his pathetic Rod Stew haircut in front of a camera.
Now that I no longer watch MK at 7am, it does not wear well pm and looks contrived and dying a death but still worth watching for some chefs.
Tell me please where else can you view chefs cook in an unpretentious manner.

Well there has been some pretty dismal fare on the TV lately so perhaps Market Kitchen is no longer the worst cookery show on air. I had always thought the show was way too aloof for my taste but when Tana left it was like the clouds parting in the sky. Only Fort remains as a pompous weirdo.

It's clear in retrospect that it has been the presenters all along that have ruined this show.

Amanda Lamb has added much needed verve and spice to the show, albeit she may be a bit too racy when she's on with Tebbutt. Hopefully now the producers can settle down to a permanent two or three presenters that we can start to enjoy?

I hope so.

There does seems to be an awful lot of cleavage around these days on MK - surely that can't be good for Matthew Fort's blood pressure?

As for Mat Tebbutt, I think he's heading for RSI of the eyeballs! Develish

And exactly what is wrong with an "awful lot of cleavage"??? Hmmm??

I've had fun watching MK recently (but haven't learnt a thing!) Wink
