Oh dear - not sounding hopeful is it - I didn't watch last night but I usually watched GFL at work at lunchtime - I see they have a Market Kitchen Extra on today - is this the repeat or a different thing - I thought the whole idea was to do it live from a market??? Confused!!

What a dreadful programme; frankly I could not stand the borish overbearing Jenni Barnet but this programme is no alternative to GFL. And who was that dreadful woman with no neck cooking rabbit? Come on guys get a professional presenter in to do the show and lets face it Tania Ramsey would not be on if she wasn't married to Gordon. Bring in someone to inject some pace and liven up this pedestrian show and no more amateur presenters;Tania and Tom aren't chefsbut just trading off their names

What a disappointment. Poor presenting and lack of personalities. I always enjoyed GFL, but after 30 mins of Market Kitchen will not be watching again. BRING BACK JENI !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Cry

No...not impressed at all. Not looking good so far, and not looking like it is going to get better either I'm afraid.
I'm still sulking that the lovely Simon Rimmer isn't in it, that would have improved it no end.
And...Oh that Camera work!!! PLEASE stop this sea-sick type of camera work. Chef making Tortellini and the camera on him and his face rather that what he was doing, so that was a waste of an item. Did anyone follow what he was doing? or is it me?

I think i may be highly suspicious of this fact that somehow we lost something that was so imformative, entertaining and life changing even. that was to be replaced with something no where near as good. I am wondering still if money is at the route of this - as may be someones husband(GR)! thought that he could produce something better so knocked GFL off the top spot by putting lots of money up but had to remove Jenny in order to take over! - but he still wants to keep Jennys followers? Am I getting close? I still dont see why there isnt room for both so we could still have GFL! Waitrose have definitly backed the wrong horse in my opinion!

Not keen - Tana and Sarge are currently making something and they are not even looking at the camera - they are just talking to each other - not keen on the rabbit woman either - Matt is very cute but I don't think he will be able to hold it together on his own - it feels a bit like we have wandered into a staff canteen with an amateur camera man practising!!

Very poor replacement for GFL - past his sellby date "food writer" (who took over an hour to cook a sausage on Nigel Slater and licked his knife on Great British Menu), little known chef (outside London), Gordon Ramsay's wife and Camilla's son!! No personality in any of them and no presentation/camera skills. Come back Jenny and Co - SOON.

I thought it was good, I think you should all give it a chance - it's refreshing to see 2 new presenters instead of the tired old usuals - and for me Jenny would make me turn the telly off she was so irritating

Confused Also just watched the first 30 minutes of Market Kitchen. What were they thinking of to replace GFL with this dreadful programme? Everything, the set, the wooden presenters, (what are all those people doing in the background?) and the camera work is very poor!! I shall not be watching any more!!

I have been 'scared off' and have not seen either of the two first programmes all the way through. My wife who did not reay like Jenny wants her back. Very poor judgement by your buyers. The 'resturant' concept is so unreal, I have had to smile a few times. You want viewers? Not with Market Garden and hundreds of reruns you wont. Will not give you up yet. Will wait to see if you come to your sences soon.

Only got to see half an hour of the programme last night. From previous comments it looks as if they have stopped the "quirky" camera shots. Not quite sure what all the people sitting around like extra's are supposed to be doing? When the presenter was making the salad there was cut to 3 people sitting at a table and they looked bored stiff!
Not a great deal to grab my attention.
I think it is very hard to come up with a winning formula for a food programme (GFL had it!) as it's all been done before.
The presenters didn't look comfortable and yes, it is early days, but unless they inject a little more of what GFL had then I'm afraid I can't see it lasting that long.
I'll take a look next week in the hope that it has improved.
I also think they have lost a huge audience just from not broadcasting it at the 6pm slot. As another person said there are loads of other programmes to watch on the "mainstream" channels at this time of day.
FINALLY - please stop saying GFL had run it's course and was outdated. Try saying that to Sir Patrick Moore who has been going 50 years on BBC with his "The Sky at Night" programme.

As eggsciting as watching a potato boil. Bring back Jeni who has more personality in her big toe.

Hello all,

Thanks for your comments about the first episodes of Market Kitchen; we really do appreciate all your feedback.

We do understand that the change in our programming may take a little adjustment – however lots of you managed to tune in – we had very high viewing figures for these first episodes. You can also catch the repeats at 12.30 the next day, with an added 30 mins of extra food and recipes.

We hope that the programme’s format and presenters will become a much loved part of your daily viewing - look out for more really great chefs, guests and features over the coming months.

Thanks once again,

UKTV Food

I think it will catch on - come on you lot, Jenni Barnet was absolutely fantastic, but now this is a new show and Tana and Matt are doing a great job. Once they've 'found their feet' things will be fine. Mark Sargent is fab and I'm sure there will be some other inspiring guests. I really like the fact that it's ordinary people that get to taste the food on the show. Perhaps it might be a good idea for everyone to have a little tipple on Friday's show to really get the weekend buzz going!

Amanda, you can have all the best chefs ,guests and features in the world but they will not give their best as TR has not the skills or personality for them to feed of and your veiwers will be bored ,so much so that they will switch off .Change your presenter or you have a big flop on your hands.

Not posted a lot but encouraged to do so as Amanda posted so someone may be listening

I've watched GFL/GFbites/food uncut for years. I used to sky plus it every day
I was very open minded initially about Market Kitchen and didn't want to let my resentment about cancelling GFL influence my view of the show

BUT - It has really surprised and disappointed me. It seems very clearly a poor man's F Word. Instead of Gordon (who is a world famous chef) we get Tana (who is an average cook - probably worse than a lot of us on here)

Instead of the celebrity crowd in the F Word cafe we get a few embarressed looking people. And an extended advert for all things Ramsay. The long feature on Gordon Ramsay at claridges last night was just the end for me

Ultimately if like me you enjoy food and cooking and are a competent cook you don't want to learn how to make a fish pie or watercress soup in a step by step way

You can get this from a recipe book
You watch for entertainment and to see proper chefs cooking things you wouldn't normally see

GFL for me worked because it was live and therefore never had the sanitised, boring feel of Market Kitchen / Daily Cooks / Taste etc
Also it had really interesting chefs like Maria Elia and Nick Watts preparing genuinely individual and unusual dishes

Sorry about the long rant everyone but I think they've got rid of the only cookery programme that was different to the 1001 others around, and replaced it with a cheap and cliched show which I won't be watching

(And it's sponsored by a supermarket which makes it completely under the influence of the Ramsay and Waitrose empires)

Having been one of those initial viewing figures, I'm afraid I have to agree with the "dull" & "boring" comments. I am someone who enjoys change & thinks it's important to update programmes, but a replacement only works if it's an improvement! Even my kids would watch Jeni at the risk of learning something useful, but now we're all turning over!

How about more choice & less repeats?

I have watched a couple of programes this week, i must say i do miss Jenny,s professionalism with a sense of humour, i think its also a little posh with posh talking chefs and presenters and the setting in a hooray Henry cafe which looks like it caters for the yuppe type folks and like all tv food people Tana says delicious and even a wow while looking and tasting the project for the day. Still i,ll give it a good try.

Amanda Smith, of course you are going to get decent viewing figures in the first few days of a new programme ,viewers want to check out "the new kid on the block".The verdict as far as i am concerned is BORING! Tana Ramsey has all the presenting personality of a log. and if she says" okay" or "fantastic"one more time i will need a new telly, however i am going to take the sensible option and vote with my finger and switch off. You may think the school of "Seasick" camerawork is trendy but it is simply irritating.
Bring back Jeni and GFL ,Live, lively ,refreshing and much missed!

I too am very dissapointed with Market Garden. I am a big fan of both GFL and Jeni and knew I would miss both when they finished (on my birthday) but was willing to give the replacement a go. Not for me at all. I think Tana was always going to have a lot to live up to with viewers comparing her to Gordon . Unfortunately she isn't a presenter that I enjoy watching.

If Market Garden does stay then at least can we have GFL back as well. There is plenty of room for both. I have to agree with Rick 13, as a competent cook, I do not need step by step coaching.

Please UKTVFood producers - give serious thought to our comments - we can't all be wrong !! Cry
