Look - I've got to admit that I'm not a fan on GFL - nor Ms Barnet - as her presenting approach irritates me no end. If she's good as a presenter and 'personality' you can be sure that another broadcaster will scoop her up to front a show - even if it's a copycat of GFL.
UKTV is not interested in the viewers as individuals - it's the advertisers they need to keep sweet - and the advertisers are only interested in the right type and numbers of audience. If an advertiser thought that the ratings had dropped they would move their business and spend their money in another way. So folks, you can vote with your remote controls and go elsewhere - as long as it's not another UKTV channel. That will send the strongest message to the people at UKTV. But you know what - I bet you don't.

I totally agree with everything that's been said. I could not believe my ears when I heard Jenni's "announcement". She makes the show with her fabulous personality, humour and genuine passion for food. How nice as well for a presenter to actually enjoy the food. I remember the predecessor of Good Food Live sponsored by a well-known supermarket and with a well-known ex-children's TV presenter who never ate anything! How on earth could she tell us how good the recipe was. Jenni is the star of the show, and she only asks the questions we are thinking at home. As for the "shaved Manchego" incident, it has me rolling around the floor in hysterics along with many other funny incidents. It is criminal to remove this successful programme. I will certainly not be watching the replacement.

My goodness this is (cant remember how many) post I have typed! Yes I have seen attacks too and people complaining about JB and yes she has irritated at times but for most of the time it has been pleasurable to watch her and her interviewing - yes I do love to see what she is wearing etc... so what! This all makes for good entertainment and I am not ashamed to say it! I would rather watch her trying all the lovely food and adding her funny comments and watching sometimes the food around her mouth, but this is far better than close up on a dish and never seeing someone having the enjoyment factor. Again I will reiterate what has been said so many times I will miss GFL and all the contributors, the flirting, the fashion, the history of lots of different things and most of all Jeni!!!!!!! Sorry if my English Grammer and spelling is not up to scratch!

There are loads of cookery shows but only one Jeni. In my view she is brill however, my wife can not stand the site of her. So in order to watch GFL at 6 and exra at 7 I have to watch Corrie and East Enders. So as one who allways looks for the silver lining no more GFL Yipee no more Corrie or East Enders - some hope.

Seriously though Corrie and East Enders have a formula that has worked for a lot longer that five years but no one considers dropping these shows (sadly) so why drop GFL? Surely imitation by Taste (which I have never seen or heard of untill now) is indeed the sincerest form of flatery.

Great show very sad to see it end, but hey it is just a tv show lets try and keep some proportion everyone.

completely agree that GFL should not be taken off.

There are so many rubbishy programmes on Sky that are repeated to death and it is so refreshing to be able to turn to GFL every day for a bright, interesting and NEW programme.

I have suffered with Irritable Bowel Syndrome for 10 years, having bad reactions to shop bought bread and if it wasn't for GFL I would still be suffering. GFL informed me that shop bought bread is manufactured so quickly that the yeast is unable to ferment properly and therefore can cause stomach problems. I have been baking my own bread now for a couple of months and so far I have not had any reaction. So pleeeeeeeeeease DO NOT ditch the best lunch time show on TV. Angry

I came to the programme relatively late on - well, I didn't know it was going to be late until I realised that the show was going shortly! What are the reasons given for ditching Great Food Live? It is just about the only food show on TV that truly instructs, entertains and stimulates. Also, it is not in any way patronising. Has anyone seen last night's article by Victor Lewis Smith in the London Evening Standard about the end of Great Food Live? I endorse everything he says. A question for UKTV. Which viewers did you consult about this? Not me, for sure!

I just feel impelled to add to the chorus of horrified viewers who cannot imagine life without Jeni B. This programme has been compulsive viewing for my husband and I ever since we discovered it some 3-4 years ago. The food news, recipes and guest chefs are all great but the main reason we have watched devotedly is JENI!!!!!! I hope that things are changing because she is being given an even better vehicle for her wonderful talent by UKTVFood. If not, she really deserves to be on maintstream television so I look forward to seeing her on BBC1 or at the very least Channel 4 before too long. I am SO sad that this landmark in our daily life is going. I can't remember another programme which has become so dear to us. If there is any way to keep it, please change your mind!

Jeni has already appeared on mainstream TV - I think it was ITV - presenting a cooking show with a chef, which was some kind of culinary battle between two groups - I forget the name of it now, but it was a little similar to the programme Soapstar Superchef on ITV at the moment (but without the celebrities!) It was extremely poor viewing, and was so bad that it was dropped from its time slot, and aired at 4.00 in the morning!

However, that wasn't Jeni's fault, and I agree completely with everyone's comments about axing GFL. I started watching the show in 2002 after a stay in hospital, and have watched it ever since. It forms the highlight of my day - and has, in fact, helped me get better over the years! I certainly will not be watching any hackneyed repeats that UKTV Food are going to put on in its place. As for Jeni, she is extremely talented as a presenter, which I put down to the fact that she is also a very good actress, having attended drama school; I am sure we will see her again very soon fronting a great programme - hopefully on the UKTV Food network, if they don't want to lose masses of viewers. Isn't this stony silence from the management infuriating? It makes me feel as if they are totally indifferent to the audience. Jeni is the jewel in their crown - she puts the "live" into the channel. I shan't be tuning in regularly after Friday, that's for sure, and I have been for the pleasure of Jeni's company for the past four years.

I quote here from Roopa at UKTVFood:

"Great Food Live is so successful that it's been emulated on other food shows – so that means it’s time to move on and create more ground-breaking food shows. Happily, Jeni will continue to be one of the main faces on UKTV Food, and there are exciting plans in store for this year."

Isn't that odd?

Hob, that's one of the great mysteries of the changeover. Many also reported at the time that there was an announcement to similar effect made on GFL itself. Roopa's earlier comments on this thread only deepen the mystery about GFL and why it's not in repeats and why Jeni didn't "come back" as promised.
