we have one of those and what we do is we boil a big pan of potatoes and have a selection of cold meats such as salami, parma ham etc, cooked prawns, then some pickles such as cornichon - some veg if you want. then we get the cheese which is actually called raclette (some waitose sell it) then, at the table everyone gets there little individual pan and puts what they want in it - put a piece of cheese on top an put it under teh grill part to melt- then enjoy!! its great cause everyone can make their own combinations and you can use more or less whatever you want

Big Grin went to an evening at friends who had one set up for us - fabulous - we all cooked our own meats - strips of steak, turkey, chicken, pork, bacon, etc etc , cheese on the platters underneath and loads of salads, crusty bread etc would love to get one!!

There is a great site in English that has plenty of raclette recipes: [link]

On the same site there is also a lot of info about the history of raclette and much more. Well worth a read!

and try cheddar or other cheeses on it as well (my french neighbours squigglied their noses at first but now cheddar is a def yes!) we also have one for puds as well, I just think of mine as a sort of indoor barbie if that helps!!

I just read through "The Insider's Guide to Raclette", available either from the site mentioned above (Raclette Australia) or directly through Amazon US, and it is great! Yes, it has plenty of recipes, interestingly enough not the same as on their site, but quite a few brand new ones. It also explains raclette so well and in exactly the right amount of detail to take you from beginner to expert while still remaining very interesting to read.

So, HMQ, I strongly recommend you and all other new raclette converts to get this book, it is well worth the investment.

It is funny coz in France we only put the cheese in the little dish and once melted "pour" it over the over ingredients. I suppose everybody is different. The grill is great as everybody join in to cook, which gives a bit of relief for the main chef!! Smile

We've got a Raclette, haven't used for a while though Cry They are good fun. We used to have the cooked potatoes, a little grainy mustard topped with sliced frankfurters and Taleggio cheese too, lovely.

Must dust it off again soon.

I've seen the Aldi ones lol, they're not bad. My mum bought a Raclette when we were young, as we always liked the idea of it!! However after using it once or twice we put it away and it was never used again :(

Some food things are just too fancy for me - where I like the idea in theory, but in practice too much hassle. I guess I'm the same as my mum!

I've just bought a Raclette for my daughter, she is intolerant to dairy so Raclette cheese is out..... Does anyone have any experience of using sheeps, goats or ewes cheese.
