If you're coming in land at all, I can recommend a good inn called The Blackboys Inn, it's in a small village called Blackboys just out side Heathfield/on the way to Uckfield.

Agree with Mrs Woof Woof re the BBI if you're heading in land, although I hear it's changed hands recently - have you been there recently Mrs Woof Woof? Also in that area is The Star at Waldron which has good pub grub.

Another good place is meant to be the pub / restaurant in Alfriston or thereabouts said to have invented banoffee pie. Can't remember the name, think its got something to do with monks or friars??!! Does anyone know?

Oh, didn't know the BBI had changed hands. Any ideas when? Last went there about a year ago.

Agree, The Star at Waldron is good, as is The Six Bells at Chiddingly - used to be renowned for it's live music and fantastic garlic bread - don't know whether it's still there though!

Also, if you head along to Brighton - there's loads of good foodie places there - Momma Cherie (sp) Soul Shack which was visited by Gordon Ramsay for one. Also, in Brighton Marina - the floating chinese restaurant (sorry can't recall the name) but the food is fab and the prices are reasonable considering it's location.

I would suggest Crossways Hotel at Wilmington, on the way from Eastbourne passed Polegate and then on the right hand side of the road. Superb Food, probably would have to book.Highly recommended Cheeky

Can't help laughing at these replies. Obviously there is nowhere worth mentioning in Eastbourne itself!

There are several places, but we love Crossways so much if we ever have the opportunity to go out for a meal that is where we choose - we come from Hove (actually), so it is a little bit of a drive and also means one of us cannot drink!!! Big Grin

Many thanks for all these. Glynis says she is surprised there is nothing listed in Eastbourne. Must say I am also. Anyone help as otherwise we cannot drink as we need to drive...
Thanks

Sorry I couldn't suggest any in Eastbourne, my (misspent) youth was spent there in clubs and frequenting chippys (there are better ones in Brighton!).

Mrs WW, I think the BBI changed hands about 6 / 8 months ago.

we are visiting elderly friends in Eastbourne. We want to take them out for Sunday lunch. We love our food and are looking for somewhere in Eastbourne. We know of places outside but really want to stay in Town. We are looking for somewhere that is small freindly and fun and serves good food. Any sugestions please. We have trawled the internet and have drawn a blank!!

Apparently not! You could tri Sola Pasta which is Italian - not Bibendum - food not good..

Try The Ridgeway restaurant in Meads Street, Meads Village. It has an excellent reputation and a very extensive menu.

Having just returned from Eastbourne - found a fantastic Indian restaurant called Ashoka on Cornfield Road. It is the BEST!!!! So good we went twice in 3 days! Really nice atmosphere and terrific food.
Try it - don't think you will be disappointed.

The recommendation in Alfriston is called The Hungry Monk and it truly excellent. Fantastic british classics.. pretty reasonable prices and an incredible building with really unique private dining roooms. I've live in Sussex for 15 years and Eastbourne for 2 years and it's the best meal I've had in all that time.

We'd highly recommend Rose Cottage (approx 7 miles east of Eastbourne - just off the A27). It's a charming authentic village pub with excellent food both in the bar and restaurant.

Gibby's Tea Rooms does an excellent Sunday lunch too.

We have recently taken over a small guest house in Easbourne and we are always being asked about restaurants in eastbourne so all your replies have been very usefull. We have the lovely Marine Pub over the road from us and they have a gorgeous conservatory restaurant warning though huge portions served. We also really like Yankee Doodles Seaside Road serve American/Mexican best to book especially at the week end. Smile
