Hi...

Do you remember all those great puddings from school? Jam Rolypoly....suiet pudding...that thing with cornflakes on top and jam in the middle on pastry...

Remember it??

I am looking for recipes so I can make all that stuff at home and remember my school days. Looking for recipes for pink custard! and that chocolate brownie type biscuit that had a sugar coating on top? Remember...hot with pink custard and cold on its own...

Please can anyone help...???

Hi James.
If you type in 'chocolate concrete' in the 'search fo'r bar top left and put 'messageboards' in the box underneath, you will see a lot of discussion about old school dinner recipes. Have a look as there are some recipes.

Pink Custard - use a packet of strawberry or raspberry blacmanche powder - use more milk to get pouring instead of set. Smile

Thanks!!

I did some searching and found quite a few recipes for 'Chocolate Concrete'....looks like its not just me who enjoyed school dinners (or puds!)....

Pink Custard....Thanks Ishka!! I will give that a go...people have been telling me to just make normal custard and put red colouring in it...but I new it was not just that...it had a taste to it...(strawberry)....will give it a go!

Thanks Guys!

You could also try making a basic sweet white sauce and put some strawberry or raspberry sauce in it. Or these days you can buy strawberry custard.

Or even milkshake syrup.

James : Brown & Poulson still do boxes sachets Blancmange - from 'pink' or chocolate to assorted (usually 1 each raspberry/strawberry/choc/banana)
We used to have strawberry with shortcake: rasperberry with 'brownie' and choc with choc/fudge cake or flan. Sliced bananas in banana custard.
Then there were all the different steamed puds and custard. Treacle tart and 'mock cream' Jelly with fruit cocktail and cold custard. Not forgetting the 'best' prunes and custard!
Good job we still had playing fields - compulsary PT twice a week: Hockey or netball/tennis twice a week. Rounders in the dinner or play break. Cross Country about once a month (usually only 5 miles unless Games Teacher took a bad turn then we got 7 or 10 miles! Also cycled to/from school or walked. Feeling exhausted just thinking about it.
So if you start a 'school dinner' club - happen you should also be checking out the gym? Cheeky
