Thanks, I have checked the major supermarkets before without success but I found some Vollkorn brot in Tesco on Saturday. Not as good as I had in Germany but pretty good.
I think it may be available here in selected stores only. I am in S. Yorkshire and I don't know of any Waitrose or Salisburys. Thanks again.

in Cologne recently I had very dark, dense german bread full of rye seeds with a malty, sometimes fruity flavour -it is usually thinly sliced with no crust. a slice looks a bit like a cork mat - I think is called vollkorn brot or perhaps a type of westphalian pumperknickel. Does anyone know if this is available to buy in UK? If so, where?

I tried to make the Paul Brodel recipe
Witches Fingers - biscuits- for my sons class at school .
Althought the dough was very soft - the first batch looked great when they went into the oven - very finger like and authentic .
When the began to cook, however, Disaster !! they spread out into one huge biscuit!! This is despite chilling before rolling as per the recipe.

Has anyone else tried these? What am I doing wrong?
I have another batch of fingers in the fridge chilling
Any ideas to get a better result this time?
