Noise Pollution During Advertisements

Hi Smile

I've often wondered how to approach UKTV about this, and these message boards seem like a good option...

Although I love UKTV's excellent programming (especially UKTV Documentary), there is one thing that is increasingly irritating me:

I've noticed that many of the advertisements on UKTV jump in volume quite alarmingly. This concerns me, because I don't like disturbing my neighbours (being in a terraced house)... I'm sure this is in an attempt by some of the companies advertising to shout their message across to the viewer in order to get their attention, but is this really necessary? Having to adjust my volume from advert to advert is getting tiresome and definitely doesn't encourage me to use the advertiser's services.

Surely there are people working for UKTV (or the station providers like Sky/NTL) that moderate what's advertised and can tell when a simple thing like volume is excessive. With new noise pollution laws being introduced, it's surprising that this is tolerated. I sincerely hope this issue is looked into.

Does anyone else feel the same about this?

I completely agree. Loud ads are a problem but not just for the neighbours. People with hearing impairment often have problems adjusting to vast changes in volume and dealing with background noise. The ads are sometimes so loud they can be offensive or even painful.

Agree entirely, and this is a problem we are hearing more and more people talk about. UKTV Gold being the main culprit. The jump in volume is rediculous when the ads come on. I have people living in flats above me, and either side of me, and its a constant hassle having to turn the volume up and down at every ad break. Its getting to the point where people are muting the ads or changing channel to avoid this problem. Surely this defeats the point of the adverts, if people are turning them off??? Come on UKTV, get your act together.

I find it interesting that no representative of UKTV has commented on this post, after all this time.

Totally agree.
It wakes up the whole house when late night viewing. It's counter-productive anyhow. I reach straight for the remote to turn down the volume and, of course, whilst remote is in hand I naturally go channel hopping and often find something better to watch.....
