'Scullery maid' is a break from the norm allright, not a mills and boon thats for sure but gripping and thought provoking none the less! dark story lines linking with vivid war scenes, it'd make a good mini series. I enjoyed it and would recommend it!

Jane Austen is good but they've been done so many times. Diary of a Scullery Maid has the drama, the history but more suspense & action. A great love story but with dark undercurrents & war scenes it will keep the men intrigued too. I couldn't put the book down. Up there with Wuthering Heights I can't wait to see a series done.

ronniesbairn,
That is quite the testament to the capacity of human beings to love each other in the most profound of manners. I'm convinced that the very real life experiences we share are the basis of the great art we produce. You are right. What passionate love.

I was delighted to see so many of your other contributers recommend Diary of a scullery maid. As anyone who has read this outstanding novel will know, the diary is a love story that spans the decades and crosses continents and classes. It is an epic tale and ripe for a mini series of sumptuous proportions.

Why is the Lord's name always used as if He is just a nobody. starry-eyed-dreamer? Whatever series, reality series are broadcasted, "ohmygod" always features. Does people know what they are saying and doing in using God's name? Cry Angry

How about Lady Jane Gray. Based on the true story of Jane Gray's 9 day reign on the throne before Mary Queen of Scots...kinda. Sobbed my heart out at the ending Cry

The Thorn Birds should defo be on there. It's great. I also recently read a trilogy of love stories written by Posie Greame Evans, The Innocent, The Exciled and The Beloved. They were amazing. Check them out if you want a great love story. There are just sooooo many. I love the one's with lotsa history in them to, esspecially old English, anywhere from medevil England to late 1800's. They make the best reads for me. Smile
