Richard - UKTV

Hi there

We have just bought series 13, 14 and 15 for the first time on Drama so we are moving forward in time gradually! I believe there are 28 series altogether so that should keep us going.

Regards

Richard

Hi, I live in the US and love LOTSW. I have purchased series 1-6, but have been unable to find and purchase any more of the series, except for single shows. Can anyone direct me to place where I can purchase more of the series. George Taylor

Hi ....
To help George Taylor, I do know that the BBC have released Series 17 + 30 Years of LOTSW + A tribute to Dame Thora Hird on a two disk region 1 set through BBC America and is still on general release through the major retailers (PlayUSA, Amazon etc)As to all the other series they are slowly being released, but not quickly enough for us lovers of the program.
Hope this helps

I totally agree with Badger (7th July 2006), it is now March 2007 and the same episodes are still being shown. For Pete's sake find some different episodes, why can't you show them all, in sequence?

Grumpy Uncle's so so right. More specifically, I don't think "A Merry Heatwave" from series 4 has been shown for yonks if at all, and many of the Christmas and other specials never get an airing.

Also, it would be helpful if we fans - who give you a guaranteed audience - could have some notice of what is coming.

I constantly watch uktv for Last of the Summer Wine, but can we please have some of the many specials shown, there are over 20 made Confused

Have to agree with everyone here, they have 30 years worth of episodes to choose from but they keep showing the same ones over and over.

When I first put a thread on here I said about seeing more of Foggy But I did not anticipate this many with most of them repeated almost weekly, there are plenty more episodes made with Truly and specials at Christmas, please change the system and let us staunch LOTSW addicts see something different.

Other channels run back to back episodes of other series, why can't we have a LOTSW day or better still week, with the whole run being shown in sequence? Surely this is not beyond the capabilities of the program planners, although it would mean they have to earn their money for once.

Wrinkled of Wandsworth

I accept that programme planning and scheduling is not as simple as it appears, and that UK TV Drama may not have access to all LOTSW episodes. Also this message board, despite the unanimity of our messages, may not be regarded as typical of the rest of the audience. However, the number of us contributing must be minuscule compared with those "outside" with similar feelings. In some areas the constant repetition of the same episodes is regarded as a joke.

Please would somebody who is really involved in scheduling give us a statement as to why there is such vain repetition when variey is apparently equally easy to provide.

Why not start from the pilot episode and go through episode after episode in order of release.
I am 100% sure that all S W fans would appreciate this

While we are on the subject, how about rerunning First of the Summer Wine? To the best of my knowledge this series has never been repeated. Wouldn't it be nice to see the whole sequence from First to Last.

Don't have any other nickname...

I agree with grumpy uncle that it would be nice to see the whole sequence from First of the Summer Wine to Last of the Summer Wine

I think they might be listening! The 7th, 8th and 9th April we have back to back episodes in sequence of series 1-4. In addition series 5 & 6 are now available on DVD and includes the Christmas Specials of 1978, 1979 and 1981. Let us hope that this policy continues, in the meantime thank you very much.

last of the summer wine . what more can we say about this timeless piece of comedy . loved by young and old alike . but to agree with the views of everybody else please could we have some variation regarding the showing of episodes . i do appreciate that episodes have to be bought by yourselves . bearing in mind the overwhelming popularity of the programme can i respectfully suggest that you purchase all remaining episodes that have not yet been shown as soon as possible.

Cleggscap

In your write up you state 'Originally starring Brian Wilde as determined ex-Army man Foggy'. Surely Michael Bates as Cyril Blamire appeared in the original series. Or have I missed something. I have series 1, 2, 3 & 4 on dvd and Foggy does not appear until series 3 'The Man from Owestry'.

Big Unc

Cleggscap is quite correct. Michael Bates was in the original January 1973 Comedy Playhouse pilot and Series #1 and #2. He sadly died shortly thereafter.

UKTV Drama along with UKTV Gold have been pretty good about screening the many LOSW episodes. Over last year or so I have seen everything from the 'Of Fish and Funerals' Pilot (1973) right through to the 1998 Series #19 (by which time Truly has entered the fray).

Where they have fallen down slightly is with the Specials. Over last Christmas they did catch up with four (Christmas 1987 to 1990) but apart from that all we seem to get is the Christmas 1984 Special, The Loxley Lozenge repeatedly. So please, can we have a few more of the missing specials and it will be great to move on to Series#20 Big Grin

Flyinghaggis

Yeah! Go for it BigUnc, we need to have different christmas specials! Oh and for anyone who doesn't know series 1,2,3,4,5,6 are all available on DVD also series 17 can be bought on DVD.

Yeeeehaaa! Big Grin Wink
