Thanks Stuart36 for finding it!

After further inquiries it seems that the artist is in fact a belgian composer named Wim Mertens but the piece is as you say called "Close Cover".

Many thanks to you too, Aronofsky! Close Cover appears to be the name of an album with the track of the same name on, so I'm currently searching for a copy of the album. The best price so far is over £40 though from Amazon!

Wicked! many many many thanks Aronofsky, I was halfway there. For a few moments I believed Ray was a raver, he does like his glowsticks.

Hi Lone

- the music in the antarctic episode, when he lights the fire

Answer William Orbit, Album is 'Strange Cargo' the track called 'Silent Signals', hope this helps. Anyone know the music of when from Extreme Survival when Ray is making Fire in the Arizona Desert using 'Sotol' wood (plant) to make fire by friction?

Also on 'Trips That Money Can't Buy' when Ray Mears & Ewan McGregor go into the cave with torches to look at artifacts. Dripping cave ceiling etc. The music is a haunting womans voice, hope someone can help. Wink

Also the other piece of music when he finishes crossing the desert at night is Mumbai Theme Tune by A.R. Rahman, available on CD Café Del Mar: The Best Of [Disc 2]. After that the music is William Orbit also. El Ninjo is the track, from Srange Cargo Hinterland CD. Ray Mears uses alot of William Orbit.

REMEMBER MOST OF THIS STUFF YOU CAN GET FROM iTUNES FROM THE APPLE STORE. £0.79.

Superb Puffin, thanks for that mate! Smile

I'm really thinking about putting together a quick web page just as a quick list of all 'Ray Mears' music discovered so far, this info is a real treasure trove of info.

Thanks Lone.

I do have a massive iTunes Library so I've got all the stuff listed. This is my first forum, quite cool to get a great response, thanks Wink If you want to know any music info just ask. I once kayaked with Ray Goodwin (on the Canada Trip program) who is a friend of Rays, that was a great day. Love old Mearsy, he's great. Since watching these DVD's I spend a lot of time 'Bushcrafting', good inspiration stuff. I do think the music they use on his programs are really good choices!

My iTunes sentence may have been confusing, what I mean't was iTunes for PC, free download from online Apple website, then setup iTunes account and tracks cost £0.79. Mac users, already know Big Grin

Yeah, love the Ray Mears programmes, one of my faves on TV. Part of the reason why these programs (along with other shows like Top Gear) ahve great music is because the BBC, thanks to it's radio stations, has unlimited access to a large, commercial music library. They don't have to pay royalty each time they use a track, so they can select the best ones to use. Smile

Thanks for your recommendations but I'm not really a big fan of I-Tunes or Apple. If anything I prefer having a good old CD. Smile

Hi Lone,

Made a mistake, the track while Ray is lighting the fire is actually William Orbit, a track called 'Crimes Of The Future' on the Strange Cargo Hinterland Album. Then it goes to William Orbits 'Silent Signals', as previously posted.

I'm a fan of Apple & iTunes as I travel alot, iTunes great for checking out tracks though, but agreed you can't beat the old CD. I've got a Linn system which is lovely.

Couple more tracks for you, on Extreme Survival obviously a track called 'Porcelain' by Moby but also a track called 'Down Slow' on the same album, which is called 'Play'.

'Song for Life' by Leftfield on the 'Leftism' album, used on the Extreme Survival 'Arizona Desert' program I believe. Oh yes on the 'Desert Island Survival, program also a track called 'Les Nuits' by 'Nightmares On Wax'. Also the music for the Artic survial program contains William Orbit again though the group is called 'Torch Song', the album is called 'Toward The Unknown Region'. (Rare CD) The tracks used are 'Raphael' & 'Gumbo Ya Ya'. Wink

Still searching for more music from the DVD's.

Regards
Puffin

Hi Daedalia,

Trying to help but a little confused. Extreme Survival Series 1&2 'The Sahara Desert' (on disk 2) doesn't have Ray making any fires with music. If you mean the rescue fire (petrol & sticks) sorry can't help you on that one, yet! Please advise...!!!!

Cheers Andy, I saw it on the weekend, freeview info told me the episode but I'll find the clip and extract the piece I'm after. If you could have a look at it for me when I sort it I'd be very grateful. Toward The Unknown Region, excellent album, I used to have it, god knows where it went, might have a good old rummage tonight. Cheeky
