I like those who love there car to do most stuff in it like sleep and have a tiny trailer with cupbourd(s), mini fridge, shower... Poo bucket for the cars fuel. A chicken. (Seriously is my personal fantisy) HATE HOLIDAY CARAVANNERS WHO DON'T LIVE! Any one else?

Jacko, the point is, the Defender has been running for so long simply because it IS so good... and the freelander is not... it IS still being made, therefore it IS new, thats the end of it.

And for my oppinion, the only one that should be in this catagory is the Defender. None of the others can compete with it's durability as an off-road vehicle (which is, after all, what being a 4x4 is all about is it not?)

Now lets be serious about the Land Rover Defender. I live in a town so people think I don't "need" one - but they are simply stuck on the fact that the vehicle has superb traction in the slippy stuff and forget all the other uses it has. I couldn't do my job without a vehicle that acts as a minibus, tractor, mobile access platform, van, mobile billboard, generator and be dirt cheap to run and kind to the planet as it runs on old chip fat. Why hasn't everyone got one?

The Defender, the coolest car of all time apart from Bond's Aston Martin DB5. The Defender is The World's Greatest Car of All Time as voted on TopGear, and just recently I found it was also one of the best Getaway cars of all time. Plus nothing else in the world, let alone in it's class can beat it off road.

my perants own a Defender because we have a farm and they do alot of work with it e.g: towing trailors. and it is brilliant.

The Freelander manages to be two cars in one - a comfortable, luxurious mile-muncher and yet the wipe-clean surfaces and hardwearing upholstery mean it can handle trips to the stables, or a day's trip out with the hounds. The 2.2 TD engine is a peach - smooth, with ample grunt, and the handling is surprisingly chuckable for a serious 4x4. And with the Uncle Henry badge on the bonnet, servicing isn't a problem. The Mk 2 Freelander has really come of age, and must be giving those bods at BMW a lot of sleepless nights.

The 4x4 I would like to vote for is a RANGE ROVER

THE BEST 4x4 THIS YEAR IS THE RANGE ROVER. OTHER 4x4s TRY TO COPY BUT THERE JUST NOT GOOD ENOUGH.

THE BEST SMALL CAR IS A CLIO WITHOUT A DOUBT. ITS GOOD LOOKING, FAST, RELIABLE AND NEVER SAYS NO. COME ON GUYS WHAT DOES THAT DESCRIPTION REMIND YOU OF. ITS WHAT EVERYMAN IS LOOKING FOR.
